Latch Problem on Leather Tour Pak
« on: August 06, 2006, 07:12:23 PM »

Has anyone had any problems with the latch mechanism on the leather tour pak? I have had mine  only three months and the latch is broken. I took it to the dealership and they worked on it and it worked a few times and then quit working. The latching mechanism will not catch and hold the lid. Anyway, I went back to the dealership and no questions asked they are ordering me a new latching mechanism.

Luckily for me the wind does not cause the tour pak lid to raise up while riding down the road. On this particular trip I did not have my bungy cords with me, so I did not have anything to tie the lid down with.

My rain jacket got caught in there...took me 20 minutes to work it out.  It would not open at all.

My tourpak lid does not always line up properly when closing so I am forced to move it slightly to the right or left to catch the latch. My dealer instructed me to NEVER slam the lid or it will most likely damage the latching mechanism and automatic locking feature.

Check to make sure the bracket in the lid isn't loose.  Mine slid up a little bit making it unable to reach all the way into the latch mechanism.  Scooted it down and tightened it back up.  So far so good.

Mine did that when it was new.  There is some adjustment on the lid latch. Once I moved mine where it would go a little deeper it works good MOST of the time. You still have to be careful and make sure it's lined up straight when you shut/slam it closed. I still think this would be the perfect bike if it had the standard hard tour pack.  Last time I checked, they, meaning HD, did not offer the 06 CUSE colors for matching. Does the 07 catalog have it?

My leather tourpak had the latch offset. Re adjusted easily. (production run mar06). Has anyone bought a fiberglass king tour and re painted?  John

You would have to find someone to match the paint.  HD doen't release the CVO paint code or paint for several years after prodution.  Am thinking about a std tour pak from an ultra with rear lights.  Saw several on Ebay for $300-500.

I like the smaller leather tour-pak. It takes up less room hanging on my wall then my old King Tour-Pak did.  ;D
