FXR 4, 3, 2, Starter motor / starter clutch
« on: July 08, 2012, 06:57:52 PM »

Has anybody replaced a starter clutch/jackshaft/motor on an FXR4? I am having a hell of a squealing noise when starting. I had a new starter motor installed about 2 years ago, and a new starter clutch last year. i do not know why it keeps having thesha the bike e issues, but it's pissing me off. I would like to do this myself. I have primary case off. I am just wondering what I can expect when starting. I see the starter motor is held on by 2 allens, accessible from the right side of the bike. I am assuming that once I remove the jackshaft bolt it will slide out? If someone can give me a hand or pointers, I would really asppreciate igt. I need to get it going before next weekend!!

   Thanks

The only problem I had with my starter is that the clutch starter failed p/n -31663-90. It would disengauge before turning over the motor. I thought it was the solenoid.
I got a heavy duty aftermarket item.I forget the name. The bike push started easily kinda sorta maybe.
