Glad you made it home safe Jock! Sorry we missed each other at Sturgis. By the looks of your photos you were just a day behind us.

Hopefully it will be just something simple.

So how many miles on this trip? What are you up to on the bike?

~ 8,500 / trip

~ 29,000 / bike

Agreed on the simple.

Jock,I  followed your adventure out and back. The pictures were amazing and made me almost think I was riding with you. Glad you made it home safe and sound, so I guess I can unhook my trailer from the truck s you don't need a tow  home.

What was wrong?

Good question and at this time I do not have the answer.  What I can tell you is the bike was running fine until I went to crank it up that morning.  On the first try it backfired and would not crank after that.  The motor would turn but would not run.  The battery was fine.

The bike was towed to the dealer which was lucky only a few miles down the road.  A tech first told me that I had a problem with the tuner and it would need to be replaced and retuned.  While I am not a tech nor that knowledgeable that did not sound correct to me.  I informed him that I would call the person who tuned the bike ad maybe he could help him.  I contacted hd-dude (Jim) and he consulted with the tech.  The tech reluctantly returned to the bike and suddenly one hour later said he got the bike running but I had to disconnect ACM.  The front spark plug was black and both plugs were replaced.

The bike run fine going home but not knowing what occurred caused concern for me during the ride.  Once I have it checked out here I will let you know...

Well the bike was placed in the shop today and I should know the diagnosis this week.

Thanks for taking us along, felt like I was with you all the way. Great ride report as always, you are the man. Hope our paths cross some day soon. Seems as though Kayla comes first these days but hoping to start taking her with me some time soon. She turned 6 on 9/1 so maybe next year. Thanks again Dick for all you do.....  :2vrolijk_21: Jon

If I have anything to do with it I can promise you they will...Kayla should come first always and you already know that and will place her there!  Looking forward to that day.

But first I still have to get that bike repaired!

So what is the doctor's prognosis? Will the patient survive without any major transplants?

Talk about memories.  The Sturgis and Wyoming shots brought quite a bit back to me.  Have my name in the Dungeon Bar 5 places (top of the stairs) for the 5 years we went...at least I hope they are still there!  Going back (Lord willing) in 2013 for first time back since 1998.  Also, thanks for all the pics of the SW/NW.  Always wanted to ride Oregon/Washington and Idaho.  Sounds and looks like a great trip and thanks again for sharing your adventure. :2vrolijk_21:
