Softail Convertible accessory stowage
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:20:02 PM »

I tried using the normal wall mounted system for the CVO Softail Convertible fairing, but as some know it will not work.  I just thought I would show you all what I came up with. It's made from pine to keep the weight down but it's still pretty heavy.  The inside is lined with brown velvet type fabric to keep from scratching anything.

Now THAT is cool.  You should have drawn a dart board on the front instead the of the bar and shield...you could have storage and family fun.... :bananarock:

Thanks ALL!  I'm not too keen on anyone flinging darts at something that holds something that price LOL.  My luck one would SOMEHOW make it through.  As far as the shield and everything, I had them all laser engraved at plaque shop (I'm in the Marine Corps so they are pretty regular around bases).  It was luckily just the right size to fit in his machine.  It was a really fun project for sure.

I assume you laser engraved the wood and then color stained for the correct finish???

OOH-RAH!

Well bmcgc, I'm not sure if that's a jab like it seems or not, but I pay those same taxes as you, so I essentially have worked the past 20 years for free, and I have time off (imagine that), just not as much as most folks.  Anyway,  Yes, I used different colors of stain to create the whole 3D look of it.  The laser engraving turned out nice with the knotty pine.  It looks really good up close because you can see the wood grains.

1st of all thank you for your service, don't see anything wrong with you doing projects in your free time.

2ndly looks great!  What are the dimensions of that box?  Are those the saddle bags in the bottom?

And hey, I don't blame you for not taking my suggestion of the dart board on the front....just looks like a great back drop for one... :2vrolijk_21:

Absolutely thankyou for your service!!  I was in the Navy many years ago now and I remember those type of support shops being all over the place around a military base.  And your free time is your free time.  Remember, freedom ain't really free, folks.  Anyway, your idea looks really good.  I'm trying to find something that will fill my needs in that department.  All depends on the shop, garage, or other setting we have our bikes in whether this idea or that idea works best.  You've found one that fits and looks great!  Pork.

Not telling tails out of school here but I believe bmcgc might have read your post wrong.  I believe he thought you meant the work was done on post using g'vment tools/equipment/personel on g'vment time.  Which, by the way, I have NO issues with.  The fine men and women of our military stand in harms way 24/7 so I have NO problem with blowing off a little steam with personal projects on down time.  They earned it as far as I'm concerned.

I believe, however, that this was a missunderstanding by bmcgc...not defending his statement, just attempting to clarify.... :2vrolijk_21:

I'm not worried about the comment but still had to speak my mind.  The cabinet is 36" x 36" outside dimensions, part with the fairing is 28" x 36" with the drawers taking up the rest of the space.  Inside the drawers is my half helmet and back pilion.  My bags hang on the wall on a DETACH DEPOT rack FOR SADDLEBAGS (Part Number 93100002).  They are great.  Bags fit on the wall like they would on the bike.  They are made for wall joists with 16" centers just like most garages so it's really handy.

LOL...I'm not sure what kind of discount there would be on something like that.  I'm not too bright when I have my mind on a project, so it's at least $350 in materials to include the HD handles and the laser etching.  The wife let me know about it too... :soapbox:
