A few weeks back I read some where that they were going to chop down like 400 mature trees to get it from the air port to the place where its going to stay at for display.  May be you could get your bike pictured with the stumps also.  If you are from around that area.  What is it like to have it being there I personaly think it would be a honor.   Is there a big battle about transporting it from point  A to point B?  The pictures are great by the way.  You must have a really good camera cause they are very clear and where you are at i am suprised there is not a lot of people waiting for it to arrive.  I was supprised how big it was compared to airplane.  I thought it was a little smaller than that myself.   Lucky to have that amazing piece of history with your CVO.       Todd

Thousands of people in the Bay Area were taking pics of the shuttled shuttle. I initially wanted to take a trip to the Marin Headlands close to the Golden Gate but there was a risk of fog, large crowds and the commute and the shuttle was initially scheduled to fly by at 8:30am. Then I saw a newscast that said it would be doing a low flyby at Moffett airfield across the bay from me. So I guessed a path from the Golden Gate to Moffett.  Wished I had used my zoom lense.  I had scoped out a nice distance between a couple of cars but people started crowding in close to the bike and one TOOL even stepped right into the pic. (See below) I yelled to get out of the pic but he had shuttle fever. Whatever!  I was hoping to create a one-of-a-kind CVO pic!

Blueice posted his shuttle pic in Off Topic. (Earlier than my posting I noticed.)

Dave, I was expecting a photo from you since the shuttle was at Edwards.

When moving to the Bay Area in 1988 I was passing by Edwards and waited for an hour and saw one of the shuttles reenter Earth's atmosphere and land at Edwards.
Looking up there was a bright flash followed by two sonic booms and the shuttle circling one big circle and landing. Took about one minute.

I'm thinking that watching a launch of the shuttle from a close distance would have to be amazing.  I was on the Kadena airstrip in Okinawa when the SR71 took off at dusk.  Amazing power.
