Chip has to tell me if they'll work on one of the old, decrepit SERGs, first, then I might be your man.  Even though my fairing is 90% black, I think black LEDs might be too much of a divergence from the Classic decrepit SERG look and seem out of place.

No tacos required! :nervous: :P

On the old and decrepitererer red SERG the midnight red primary color on the fairing is dark enough it blends in pretty well with the newer model's black headlight trim.  I'm thinking the black light would look better in that mix.  But you're right; we need to let Chip guinea pig all this out first.

This thread is so funny.
I typed an original response to Rat Monkey and decided to can it because someone might think a chithead wrote the response.
That is why I nicely asked him what his questions/concerns were and was prepared to answer them.
I'm still waiting for his questions.

With that aside here's my next thought.
I wasn't going to mention this but here's an idea.
I have the entire stock housing with headlights that came out of the 12.
If it fits in the 01 then there is no reason the new LED package assembly wouldn't.
SBB

I just remembered, I have a spare 01 SERG blue outer fairing. (imagine that)
Give me a few days and I will unbox it and see if the 12 stock lights will fit.
Doing that means I don't have to take the outer fairing off the 01 SERG. (and we all know what a pain that is)
And yes I will take pictures.

SBB

See, even I can be a really nice guy sometimes.

I have a spare fairing also.  Let me test fit that light here for a few years ::) ?  (see, I can be a nice guy too!)

ONE of the (few) good things about being deployed until Jul 13; y'all will have this all figured out for me and the backorders will be cleared!  :bananarock:

Seems like black would be a good option on the yeller SERG; looking forward to seeing pics.

Just simply answering the question would suffice.

It's all been a hoot to see this discussion.  Some folks you just can't reach with normal logic...not that there was anybody on this thread that fits that definition.... ::).  Bottom line and from SBB's comments on day and night improvement over the stock halogens, the LED's are the way to go with the SERG.  The stock halogen lights are crap.  While I don't ride a RG, my buddy does and will be switching to LED's.  Based on this and other threads discussing the LED's, I will be changing SG to the LED unit, too.  Now, which one to go with.... :nixweiss:

I do have one question on the LED's and this may :jack: the thread but have a good friend in the neon sign business.  His business went down a few years ago when everyone starting going to LED lighting.  After a few months, the business started picking back up as the business owners were not happy with the LED's as the intensity/output was degrading over usage and they are going back to neon which works for years.  As we have quite a few on this site with LED headlights that are lit constantly, has anyone seen any degrading of the light intensity over days/weeks/months of use?

This has been a fun thread for me.
 ;D
So let me muddy the water a bit.
I was going to start another thread but didn't want to exceed my monthly thread quota this early in the month.
I figured this thread was about LED's and Road Glides so here goes.
I'm trying to keep the 12 SERG a little sleeker than the 11.5 SEUC barge but still want more light to be seen.
Enter the Maggie Valley GTG and I see Stu's and Terry's bike. Bingo, I'm toast again.
So now the 12 SERG has 4 lights on the rear and 4 on the front.
And keeping on topic, they are LED!

I was feeling good today and thought I would get that spare blue 01 SERG fairing down from the shelf in the garage. (the car garage)
Damn, I have to move the red scooters outside and the Mustang to get to the box and then get the ladder to reach it.
Sorry Brian not today.
It's raining here and the Mustang is Glared and clean.

Good question UR.
I don't have a clue.
I sure hope there is no degrading of the light over time.
We shall see. (or if they go dim, maybe we won't)

I've had mine for right at two years, first on my '04 SEEG and now on the '12 SEUC.  Haven't noticed any difference yet.

Chip...those Ringz lights on the front are the ticket, huh?  Anything to be seen better.  And the LED headlamps look great on the bike as well.

As far as LED's deteriorating over time...It's not a direct comparison, of course, but TV's have LED lighting and I'm sure they don't.   I also have LED's that light up my small aquarium and they burn 14 hours a day and I can't tell they have degraded with time.  I do have to clean the housing in that application, but that's it.  Don't know how UV light in an outdoor sign application would effect them over time though.  :2vrolijk_21:  Probably dependent on how the LED's are housed.

Ultrarider...glad to hear your friend's neon business did not take a long term hit though.  While LED's are neat on billboards and such, there's nothing that compares with a nice neon sign.

 :drink:
Being an Ultra owner that has added the LED lites,  I'll make two observations that may or may not apply.  First of all,  have never heard anywhere else of any (deterioration) of light from the LEDs...........I'm calling total Bull chit on that one till proved otherwise.

Second of all,  (for those of you SE Road Glide owners that just might have the garage door opener option)............Swapping to the new LED headlites can cause the GDO to no longer function.  Not sure if this will be the case for the RG LED install,  but if it is..........there is an associated thread somewhere here that mentions the HD pigtail harness that can be used to fix that problem.............fyi...... ::)

Mos, that's why I was asking.  I had not heard of anything concerning that either when it came to headlights (or LED TV's) but I do know the LED sign lights vs neon lighting is correct as my friend almost had to close his shop.  Then, things turned around as the LED issues started and he's now as busy as ever.  As Mid. Rider stated, it may be something as simple as the UV protection (or lack of) for the LED sign lighting vs the glass enclosure made for the neon.  As we can all see either in the pictures or in person, the headlights are pretty well protected from any UV issues which is a good thing.  I was just curious if anyone had seen any issues with diming and looks like from the reponses that answer would be "no".  Good to know before spending $200 or more on a headlight... :2vrolijk_21:
