12" Yaffe Monkey Bars...do i need new cables?
« on: October 03, 2012, 08:45:34 PM »

I have heard both ways...some say I can go with stock length and others say I need to change cables out.  Have any of you guys done or know someone that has done the 12" version??  I have no problem with re-routing Clutch and brake line.

PS.  My bike is a 2012 CVO Roadglide with hydraulic clutch if that makes a difference.

Yes you will. If you would of went 10" you would be ok but the 12's you will. I just did 10's and had to rerout my clutch cable to work and taller and would of had to replace.

Correct. With 10" bars, you are ok. Anymore than that and you need to replace them.

Sure, I can see that with the 12" bars.

When I did my 10" bars, I was skeptical because of all the varying info I found, so I ordered everything to be on the safe side. My bike is non-CVO, so it doesn't have the hydraulic clutch. When I ordered the magnum cable from Yaffe for the bars, it came in as the same length as the stocker. I called Yaffe and was told it's not need for the 10" bars cable. Installed it and it fit fine, not a lot of room to spare, but it's fine.

As for the wiring... they are clearly long enough, if they are slightly rerouted. I have a lot of stereo stuff going in mine, and I didn't want to add any more to the squirrel's nest, than necessary. I did the entire mod myself, so I can assure this is all firsthand info.

If I was going with any bars taller than the 10' set, I'd definitely say that everything needs to be extended.

With the PYO Monkey bars, 12's do require new cables.  That is why I went ahead and did the 14's on mine.

I really like the 14"s, almost wish I had gone 16".

Hands are below my shoulders.  Yes, you can put the miles on with them, I rode 5072 miles in the first three weeks I had the bars.  I can also ride the box in the MRSF course with the bars.
