windshield
« on: October 04, 2012, 07:08:59 PM »

my wife really likes the red breakout and i am not going to talk her out of it.  i think it's beautiful and looks like a blast to ride.  windshield is a deal breaker though - how long do you think before we will see some windshield options from the MOCO.

thx - tin

I'm shocked there isn't a windshield for it-I'm sure they will add one soon.

I think you will find the front end is nothing new so HD will have a detachable screen already to suit. Just working out which one it is will be hard until people start getting their bikes.

From a web search on the HD site, they have just about everything else for the new Breakout but no windshield options listed.  Also checked the "new parts" section and looks like the wind splitter will be available for some softail models but the Breakout is not mentioned.

Well, folks, do not be dismayed any longer.  Prayers have now been answered.  I just got the hot skinny from "Carnac the Magnificent" (aka Johnny Carson) and I watched him pull 3…..count them; 3………… new, distinct Harley windshields for the CVO Breakout (FXSBSE) right out of his hat!  No kidding!  Well, maybe right out of his sleeve................. Well, on second thought I think he pulled them from a  listing in the 2013 Harley P&A Catalogue.
First, MoCo has worked very hard thru the spring and summer to get these new bikes into the hands of new owners. Remember the months we were in suspense waiting and waiting…….and waiting??  Well they were hard at work with blindfolds on and sworn to secrecy……. Now “Carnac” said the MoCo wants to hear from us consumers and listen to what we want for Christmas for our BOs:  In the meantime, here are just 3 of their first “gifts” available to us good little girls and boys who like 2-wheeled toys.
P/N  58387-06 -- 18” Clear $350
P/N  58413-06 -- 18” Smoked $385
P/N  58444-06 -- 14” Smoked $375
And for all those nay-sayers always dogging the MoCo, be advised that all 3 of these windshields are quick-release and come with the chrome clamps included (no docking hardware required). Sort of “plug and play” you just might say.  No extra stuff to buy.  Plus this is made of durable Lexan like all their other windshields.........Oh, and “God bless us, everyone!” (Tiny Tim).   Pork

how do these windshields attach?  in the photos on the hd website they are on the top section of the forks.  but that won't work on the BO because of the chrome filler piece between the headlight and the fork tubes.

I don't know where your guys dealers get their accessoire gatalogue but when I got delivery of my CVO Breakout. Back in May I installed straight away a detachable windshield,  the clamps are ending just before the chrome cover so no problems.

I agree...don't know what the mystery is.  I put on a super-sport when I got the bike back in February.  Clamps fit and work fine.

Hi guys, does anyone know if it is enough to install only one quick release windschield locking clamp to protect the windshield? Maybe two locking clamps are necessary, one at each side?

You need four clamps , two on every fork leg to prevent the shield from bending backwards

Oh, my fault, you have misunderstood me. I want to protect the windshield against theft. One LOCKING clamp or two LOCKING clamps needed to protect against theft?

I have one locking clamp, when that one is locked you can not remove the windscreen without breaking anything offcourse when they want they can break that one clamp. But on the other hand , if theynhave allenkeys they can simply remove the screws and take the screen. To prevent this I have used "tamper proof torx screws" so only when the have a set of torx keys they can steal,it.

Does all of the windshield mounting hardware and clamps come off the bike when you remove the windshield or do the mounting clamps stay attached to the fork tubes?

Thanks,

Joe

There are two clamps per side for a total of four. You wouldn't want any less. I have had mine for a year, never used it yet but might someday.

I have a 14 BO and a 10 wide glide. I have a narrow sport windshield for the  wide glide and it clamps right on the BO. I also have a Fat Boy with a National Cycle shield.  They make a shorter wide shield for the glides that I would think may fit the BO also. Haven't seen one on but in my opinion having the taller, narrower I think the other would look better on either bike. Again I am not sure of fitment as mine is HD

Try Windvest Windscreen. Had mine on a Sportster, 04 Wide Glide, and now my CVO. Can you see it?

When I have to have a Wind Shield, I just use the HD Wind Shield off my Wide Glide.
