Auxiliary Driving lights on the Breakout
« on: January 18, 2013, 10:00:10 PM »

Talked to my dealer today about adding Auxiliary driving lights and upgrading to the Daymaker lamp.  Good news/Bad News.....The daymaker lamp can definitely be added but the Harley auxiliary driving lights will not fit due to the shroud unless you try to mount it under the lower tree and it does not look right.

With that said we look at Kuryakyn driving lights and they have a clamp on system that I think looks better and more in line with the Breakout styling.

What do you guys think?

Looks very good, but I wonder if those clamps would leave some marks/scratches on the upper forks.

Hey Born,
I think the driving lights would look cool. Anything to give you more light for night riding is a plus. The stock head light leaves a lot to be desired at night.

You might have seen my previous post about me putting a Day-Maker on my Breakout.
I ended up returning it and getting a refund. I really like the additional light but it did not draw enough amps.
This would produce a fault code. My dealer could not come up with a fix so I retuned the bulb.

Ron that is a bummer!  I think your dealer did not do his homework.  I just sat with my dealer this morning, and he said that a load resistor is required.  So I am going forward with it plus I added the Kuryakyn driving lights with the LED lamps. Once I have the detailed info of what he did I will let you now.  unfortunately it will not be till end of February

Take a look around the Headwinds site.

http://www.headwinds.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=headwinds01&Category_Code=01

The LED's at headwinds are made by JW Speaker which I believe are the supplier for H-D's OEM Daymaker LEDS. That's the way I will be going one day... Just need the dam bike.

Bretto you are correct about JW Speaker.  How much longer do you have to wait?

I really like the Kuryakyn lights.  I like the fact they are shaped like the turn lights on the bike, only larger.  Perfect size........ big enough to get you more light but not huge like those on the bagger bikes...

That's a nice look, I think.

I agree with you Jeff.  I was going back and forth on the Harley aux/driving lights. IMO it really didn't fit the "styling" of the Breakout, so I was glad when the dealer said they would not fit right.  Then we looked up the Kuryakyn and to me it was a no brainer.  I am all about safety and the stock lamp just doesn't cut it for any night time cruising.

Born,
You are probably right about my dealer not really wanting to explore ways to make the light work.
I know lot of guys that have used load resistors when going to LED  parking/turn lamps.

Let me know what your guy comes up with. I really did like the Day-Maker, it was so much better that the stock set up.
I did install Day-Makers on my Ultra and love them. :)

Thanks,

Ron
