Street Glide versus Breakout
« on: March 09, 2013, 10:10:42 AM »

You know......I keep going to the Breakout section here and keep going away thinking "Darn, those things look Cool"

Can you please stop posting photos of your bikes so I won't buy another scooper?

Thanks for your support on this!

Love the look of the lower profile handlebars. Beautiful bike there!

Changed my Convertible bars to the fatboy bars and love it!

Gotta say that I think the SG is about as versatile as you can get.....important for me as I only have room, time, and $ for one bike.

I'm thinking that I will eventually get a street glide. Keep one in Wyoming and one in Texas. Never ridden one. I have been on my dad's electra glide a few times, street glide seems like it would be a little bit less of a beast.

Hey Pipe,

I agree.  Anytime I am on vacation in a warm climate, or on business on the West Coast where I have a couple of extra days, I always rent an SG(it's either that our a full bagger Ultra at all the HD dealerships!).  I have ridden 10 of them or so, on all sorts of roads, and I do like the bike for the reason you mention.  If you are wanting something for a longer ride than a softail, and be able to carry a couple of items for an overnight, it's a great bike.  That front end with the batwing is heavy, but nothing like an Ultra, and it's got a low, long appearance that I like.  It's handles surprisingly well for a big bike.

To me, it's a great compromise between a Sotfail and a full-on touring bike.

They are much better as of 2012 with the 103 lump.  I always felt the bike was too heavy for the 96 c.i. motor-always felt underpowered to me.

I have been on one for 5 or 6 hours at a time and been comfortable the whole time.  There's something pretty cool about crusing the PCH all day, blasting tunes from the on-board CD player.

That's a good idea. Hadn't thought about renting one. Might do that next time in Texas for more than a weekend.

There's a lot you can do with the stereo system. My old man put on a 400 watt Fosgate amp and speakers. Sounds pretty good!
