By George, I got it!! iPhone5 & Nav on 2011 SESG
« on: February 27, 2013, 02:24:47 PM »

I have literally spent months on this forum as well as talking to several dealers about (1) how to get a Garmin hooked up correctly thru my 2011 SESG and (2) how to get the new I5 to work on my bike, as the Lightning to Pin adapter does not work with th iPod integration kit.

Well here it is...and it cost $20!  Buy on eBay, Amazon, etc the EDUP EP-B3502 Bluetooth stereo receiver, and plug it in to your Aux jack (3.5mm) on the front of your radio.  It is a fully self contained unit, smaller than a pill box. No wires hanging at all.  Pair it with your iPhone 5 and bam...you're set.  Play all of your iPod music right through your speakers.

Now, you ask about Nav?  I have the FREE MapQuest app on my phone.  I set my destination, Turn on the music and when the Nav app has a direction, it lowers the music and then raises it back after the verbal instruction.

As for power, the unit charges off of a USB cable so you can charge it on your computer or get a USB cigarette lighter charger and charge on the bike!

Gotta love America. I figure I just saved myself close to $1,000?

oh...and for those of you who want Sirius or XM, just download that app.  no need for an antenna, etc.  It's almost too simple.

If  you got Iron Cross to add the input to the rear of the deck....and tapped into power to charge the unit....it could be mounted behind the faring....and that would be slick.    And not a cent to the MOCO!

I have a 2011 CVO RG, and iPhone5, Must be lucky as I have no issues playing itunes, itune, Sirius thru the radio, I do like the idea though as I need a way to do the 08 CVO UC as I just stop paying extra for XM as they did not want to offer the 6 month 6 month off plan when I went to renew .

thanks cyco, been searching a while back for something like this. Knew sooner or later it would come out, and cheap to boot  :2vrolijk_21:     Already have output to rear, so just another power tap to make and I'll be in business.

Got mine in mail yesterday. Ordered through Amazon because every seller on eBay was shipping from China. This one took 2 days from Jersey. Looks to be good quality. Haven't tried it out yet though. Debating on mounting inside fairing or not in case it doesn't pair for some reason. I do have an extra phone cable already inside one of my lowers so I may end up just leaving in there.

I have the Harley Zumo 660, the dealer did not tell me that I needed the NIM to hear the GPS directions through the radio. Will this thing work with the garmin 660, will it pair up so I can hear the directions through the radio.

If so Harley can stick there outrageous  Nim prices and install charges up their wahoo.

Just a question or 2.   Can you see your i5 on the bike.  And how did you mount it.  I'm thinking about the reflection in the sun.  Is there anyway to forward a song other than in the iPod mode?  Thanks.  Stuart.

That is standard in the phone OSes these days.  My Android does the same thing with a direct connect into my Softail Convertible Fairing's input.  It also will do it connected through a bluetooth headset or earphones attached.

stu, you can't see song list on radio, however, I bought this great new Kuryakyn iPhone mount yesterday at their booth in Daytona for $60 and its right there at my fingertips. Until MoCo upgrades software to work w I5, this seems to be a great, inexpensive fix.  I saw Willie G at breakfast today - I shoulda asked him. Lol.

I have the Kury mount for the fairing. I tried it with my phone but it shook too much for me. I ended up with the 665 did all of the wiring and like that fine. but it did cost some duckies.
Mount is in great shape and I never even peeled the double side tape. If anyone wants it for cheap PM me.

Let us know how it works for you.

Haven't tried on bike yet, but plugged into home stereo and it works great! Nice to not have to remove bumper from phone to plug jack into anymore. Obviously haven't done Nav with it, but all text and email notifications reduce music and come through. Standard Nav that came with iPhone5 speaks directions through my car's bluetooth so I'm positive it'll work with this. Thanks again for a great find :2vrolijk_21:

Finally got around to it. Works great! I velcroed it to my glove box door just because I ran an extra headphone wire in there. If you decide to stick it to front of radio, nice feature is that if you double-tap button it skips to next song on iphone. Anyway with it locked inside glovebox and phone inside my jacket pocket no issues whatsoever with cutting out. Sounds great and I'm done with XM on the HK now.

Yes it will, just follow instructions. Turn on device, go into bluetooth on phone and it'll be called something like B3503 (thats what mine was) hit connect and it'll pair. From then on, as long as phone is in range with b-tooth on and device is on it'll connect. Also nice thing is it'll interrupt music for text or email tone to come through so you know you've received one. And with phone it'll ring through speakers, but when you answer it pauses connection and you talk through phone normally. When hang up it reconnects. Really nice product for the money.

And once you go out of range, it shuts itself off so as to not wear down the battery.

Great news for this issue.

I found a bluetooth adapter that plugs into the 30 pin connector. It is designed to make the 30 pin speaker docks work with the new phones. I just plugged one into my IPOD connector and now my iphone phone streams music, pandora radio and turn-by turn commands from the GPS map.!! They are about $25 and the size of a IPOD nano.

Anymore info on that?

Anyone find a Bluetooth adapter that will output to a HSP?

HSP = HeadSet Profile

Basically, that is the profile radios use to "talk" to what ever, iPones, pods MP's etc. What I am looking ot do is to have my Nosy head unit actually connect to my Nolan helmet with music.

The phone works, but without the HSP it will not stream tunes. My guess is the lack of a HSP has to do with people using head phones etc in a car.

Cyco, great idea and the info is much appreciated.  I  have a Verizon iPhone 5 and it came with the 30 pin to lightning adapter.  I can still use all of my old accessories, and it plugs right into the factory saddlebag 30 pin connector.  I have full iPod control with the handle bar controls or the radio face controls.  I canned the XM and usually stream Pandora or Slacker for free.

My only issue has been with my phone overheating and shutting down on sunny days when it is in the saddlebag.  The Bluetooth idea really has me thinking that this is the way to go.
