so called the dealer to ask about getting the speaker lids for my maple cvo found out the lids (painted) from harley are $300 bucks a piece and do not include the speakers or the amps...Has anyone done this? and how much all said and done for everything: lids, speakers , amp installed?

I have the same bike and am in the process of doing the same thing. Waiting for the lids to come in now. I am putting 6X9 Arc speakers in the lids that the Audio place I use (Street Noyz in San Diego) has found a way to make work. I currently have Focal 6X5's in the fairing with a Arc amp that do sound amazing but just dont give me that "full sound" that I am hoping I will get with the 6X9's in the lids. When it is all said and done it will end up being around $2600 but that includes a boatload of labor to convert the lids to take the bigger speakers as well as having to redo the way the lids attach due to the "conversion.

I put an Arc 4 channel amp under the shark nose, Repalaced the front speakers with HAT 5x7, Now I'm adding the lids from Harley and putting HAT 5x7 in them as well. Should be done in the next few days.

My '13 FLTRXSE2 has the speakers in the bag lids and with the fade balanced even front to rear, I can't hear the rear speakers.  I have to bias the fade quite a bit to the rear speakers before I can hear them. 

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not sure it's really worth the time, effort and money.  But, that's just my $.02 worth....

Owning a 13 with the OEM components I've chit canned all of it.

If I were starting from nothing I would not buy the HD lids. I'd go with an aftermarket company (I like Cycle Sounds lids) and a pair of 6x9's or the new 7x10's. I don't like how far the 6x9's hang down into the bag using the OEM lids and speaker adapters. The aftermarket lids allow the speakers to mount higher in the bag.

The stock amp(s) is ok but it is not all that. I imagine for similar money as the OEM components you can get into aftermarker amps and speakers with more power.

I don't think the stock components offer enough sound for the price IMO.

Who is making 7 x 10s?? They fit in the bags???

I can't speak for the stock lids if they will fit. The 6x9's fit like crap with the adapters so I'd be apprehensive to even try them.

The 7x10's fit the Cycle Sounds lids.

Focal I believe is the manufacture.

Will it better be a bridged type coaxial if you don't want to flood the bags when it rains. I had 5x7 Focals.  They leaked

With all due respect and as others have already stated, if your "frame of reference" is the stock components (speakers and amp), I can understand your opinion but listen to a "higher end" product and I'll think you will be amazed!

I have swapped out the stock components for an Arc 4 channel amp, Focal krx2 speakers in the front and Cycle Sound lids with 6X9 Focal speakers in the rear and, in my humble opinion, they rock!
