Why make more power?
« on: April 10, 2013, 01:06:39 PM »

We all ride a very very Heavy bic. What is the deal about 5 to 10hp gain. It will not make any difference! They ARE 850lbs. not 400. CVO is great bic. Tune to get the heat out!

Zoom, you are correct.  An additional 5-10 HP might not effect the 800 lb gorilla as much as it would the 400 lb ape but it does make a difference on the highway.  Along with the 5-10 HP, you should get a modicum of torque to go along with it...maybe the same increase of 5-10 ft/lb.  Again, you won't be racing the GSXR's out there but you can feel the difference and that little bit will help with two-up/loaded riding along with better response on the road.  A 10 HP increase for a 84 HP bike is better than a 10% so not that shabby.

Greg, I was thinking the same thing..... ;D

Been riding for 53 years. Been on most of them. You will not notice 10/20hp on a cvo! Alot of money for not much gain! Good tour bic. as is!

I would agree with your original assessment of 5-10 hp not being that noticeable but you state 10-20 HP in the latest post.  I would respectfully disagree with you that you wouldn't feel 20 HP difference on a CVO or any motorcycle for that matter.  While I don't have 53 years under my belt (just 43 years here), I do have experience on quite a few different styles/types/brands of motorcycles and can tell you that a 10% to 20% increase in HP is very noticeable.  For sake of discussion, let's make it 15% increase and put that on a car making 250 HP.  A 15% increase would give you almost 38 additional HP.  You don't think you would feel that?  Most modern HD's make between 84 and 88 HP stock (give or take 3 or 4 HP).  A 15% increase on a 88 hp bike is an increase of 13.5 HP which would give you 101 HP.  Not bad and I'll guarantee you will feel it.  Plus, you can do that kind of increase with not that much money output on your part.  Also, that's not even taking into account any torque increase which you are sure to get with a HP increase.

Great post and I'm sure you will get quite a bit of feedback on your comments and this topic...so have fun and hang on..... :2vrolijk_21:

i'm gonna agree with you here.  i had a 107 kit put on my 96 and after dyno tuning am getting 98hp/124ft.lb torque.  don't remember what it was originally, but i can tell you that it is extremely noticeable.  :bananarock:

the best answer i can provide for the original question of why, is, because i want to :D

Zoom has a point.  The stock bikes are perfectly fast enough in most cases. You could spell Harley Davidson, "t-e-s-t-o-s-t-e-r-o-n-e.".  Of course, that is true for most motorcycle brands.   :coolblue:

$5,000.00 for breast enhancement on your wife, why, so others will look at her, she's married. Spend as you like, it's your life and money. I don't keep up with the Jone'es, I live for me.

I got the bro deal...20% off...'course they're stick-ons with double-back tape and tend to slide around during......eh, during.......eh, any fast movement.  Also, if they come unstuck they can hit you in the eye when suspended above you.  Too bad my reflectors don't come off that easy.
