Can someone try this for me?
« on: June 03, 2013, 09:43:55 PM »

I recently noticed that when I push down on my handlebar and  rock the front forks down and up with the front brake applied, I get a knocking noise on the upside and again on the downside from somewhere in the front end....not super loud but easily heard with the engine not running.  I can`t tell if it is in the fork tubes, the steering head neck or the wheel (ie. the wheel bearing).  I`m concerned because my bike felt a little less stable in the mountain turns last week.  Can some of you all do this on your 2012 CVO Softail Conv and please tell me if you have a similar noise...............Thanks!

Put it on a jack and lift the wheel up and down.  Bearings in the triple tree may be dry.  If this is where your noise comes from you can tighten it, add lube to the zerk on the right side or both.

Mine needed this at 10k.

I greased the neck zirc fitting.  I the had my wife sit on the bike and hold the front brake.  Instead of rocking the forks, I grabbed the front wheel and tried to rotate it forward and rearward and got the same knocking sounds.  I have the bike at the dealer now, and I suspect it is the wheel bearing.  I`ll post on what the outcome is....thanks for your help..........

Thanks for your help....this knocking is coming from my front brake floating rotor.  I think all is well...My steering head bearing was loose though and needed adjustment.

Thanks for sharing the result, I have the same "knock knock" noise on mine.
No one of my formerly bikes has such an "brake knock knock".
And I will check my steering head bearing to.

Sorry for my English!
