TTS difference, old vs new
« on: July 11, 2013, 02:55:38 PM »

Well, looks like I am buying a new bike next week.  If I do so, I'll be purchasing a new Mastertune for the new bike immediately.  Can someone in the know tell me the differences or point me somewhere where I can read the differences between the new version and the older version?

Well you will have a pretty Blue Dongle instead of an old black one and you will be the envy of everybody at the local Dyno Joint  ;D

Bottom line is the newer Blue unit (which is now a year old) has more power to be able to do more things now and into the future. Some of the HD models have switched over to a CAN based system and the Blue unit is required for those and if you wait and get a 2014 my guess is that they will all be CAN base for the 2014 model year. Release date for 2014 models is Aug. 18 so I expect they will be showing up at dealership around the end of the month.

Thanks Steve.  I read somewhere that the new unit will allow logging for VTune without being hooked to a computer (post said in upcoming update).  Has that yet been released?

My plan is to buy before Sturgis, which will mean a 2013 model.  I thought they were all CAN now, but I guess I was wrong about that.

Currently Softail and Dyna are CAN based systems. Touring, Vrod and XL models are still J-1850. In the past, when we use to do the work directly for HD they would introduce the new stuff on the Softail due to it's lower volume, in case of mistakes. Then once those were working as expected then release to other models. Since the Dyna got updated in 2013 to CAN the Vrod and XL model will be a slam dunk. The Touring on the other hand will require a different ECM to handle the DBW and the CVO Softail has been using a special version of an old ECM. So my guess is that 2014 will be all CAN.

The newer Blue Mastertune2 unit has lots of capability built in it so Yes, logging without the PC is in it. That is currently under testing here but has not been let out the door yet.

If your bike runs well now no reason for it.
