Around the (Sturgis) World in 5 days
« on: August 14, 2013, 12:04:11 PM »

Well, we had a wonderful trip.  It had been 15 years since my last trip out to the Badlands/Black Hills and they are just as magnificient as I remember.  I'm blessed that I was able to share this with my baby and best friend and they enjoyed all the Black Hills had to offer.

I have a few pictures to post and when Vickie get's the card downloaded on a CD, I'll post more.  These are from my iPhone and while they aren't bad, the ones from the camera were much better (and Vickie is a much better photographer... ;D )

Got into the area late on Sunday afternoon and had to ride into Sturgis.  A good crowd for a Sunday night at the start of the rally.  I posted a couple of these pics on the Indian 2014 thread but thought I would post one or two here, too.

And the base Chief.  I've said it on a couple other threads but I was impressed with the Indians.  Lots of work went into them (motor, drivetrain, nostalgic look and innovation).  Spoke with a couple of their engineers over the week and had the opportunity to ride the Chieftan on Friday.  Reviews and such on those other threads.

Our home away from home in the Black Hills.  The Hisega Lodge is in the small community of Hisega just East of Rapid City in the hills.  I would recomment staying there to anyone.  Great location, lots of history and great hosts in Carol and Kenn.  Carol is quite a cook and the breakfasts were amazing every morning.  Plus, it didn't cost an arm and a leg to stay there for the rally.

Another of the front.  Had to cut the creek out of the picture a bit for it to fit on the site but that sound put us to sleep at night.

Monday was the Crazy Horse/Custer/Needles Highway/Mount Rushmore day.  Crazy Horse is a must see.  The history of the site along with the Native American museum on the site is something to see.  Met one of the Native American dancers (pics on the camera) who was Cherokee from NC.  Small world....he had only been there for about 6 months.

It is amazing what they have completed to this point.  When completed, it will show Crazy Horse sitting on his horse pointing.  He's pointing to the Black Hills where his ancestors are buried.  If you get a chance, you have to visit the museum...quite the story/history here.

Yes, that is a double rainbow after the storm went through.  We could see end to end on the main one....no pot of gold, however
