Now that the paint is right I will start modifing the CUSE. I was willing to part with it if the paint was to stay with the "Shades" look, now..........It has found a home. First I want to slam it.....So low it would be hard to blow smoke under it. Recomendations? One (1) inch in the front is all Harley offers, what are your thoughts?  Wrongway

I was just thinking the same thing.....but a different approach...

My FLHX was slammed 2 inches in the back, giving an awsome look without changing the ride too much.  The main reason is for me to get my head about 2 - 4 inches lower than the stock seat so I can use the lower windshield without my helmet vibrating my face off.....and I would remove my helmet...but my 5 year old then asks me why she has to wear one - - - GOOD FOR HER ! ! !

There are several lowering kits out there up to 3 inches for the back, but how low is too low with the typical SE Ultra shock?  I believe that the SE does not come with the lowering shocks (that I think are just about 3/4 inch lower than these)....

I could be wrong though.....

I would not drop the front more than an inch. The rear you can go down 1" without too much compromise in ride. Any more than that and you will greatly reduce ground clearance and ride quality. Drop it 1" in the front and put the legends on the rear, that will give you the flexibility of ride and slammed look when parked

Most have raved about the ride when changing the shocks and center of gravity. If it was so bad why did Harley lower the 2004 and 2005, but not the 2006 and 2007? I only scale at 175 and the Lil-One is a portly 100 lbs, so we have alot of room for SLAMMING! Wrongway

I can tell ya...mine goes down a little over 3 inches in the back when the Legends are all the way down, and although I still have suspension at that level, I would not want to ride it on a regular basis that way, or on any kind of highway.  It's OK going from stop to stop, but not for riding.  Plus, you'd be dragging all sorts of things in the turns at 3+ inches lower...pipes would drag in most driveways.  My GF is 115 and I'm 175, so not a lot of difference between us.  The 04/05's were lowered 1" front and rear if I'm not mistaken.

Harley was going for a more "sporty" look and feel with the SEEG's, as evidenced by the lowered suspension, chopped rather than full size tour-pak, etc.

I do ride a 2005 SEEG2, which is factory lowered. I do have trouble at high speeds (95 miles +) with the "high speed wobble". I added a stabilizer (like tru track), I have put "extra heavy" oil into the forks, new H-D tires, higher pressure in the tires - all not much help. I have never experienced the wobble on another (read regular height) bike before, and most of the people I talk to attribute it to the one inch the bike is lowered. It is all about the rake, they say. So in essence, make certain that you ride a bike, which has been lowered, before you go ahead and make these changes. Unless you'd be happy at speeds well below 80 - 90.

I ride a SEEG, and have only experienced a slight wobble when in a curve w/worn tires or low tire pressure. I've had my bike to speeds in excess of 115 MPH and never had any wobble. I'm not trying to say that you're not experiencing what you say, but I don't think it's a across the board situation involving all the bikes that have been lowered. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

BTW - I don't have either the Tru-Track or the Ride-Straight stabilizers on my scooter.

I agree. My point was simply to make certain that someone does take that risk into account, when making that change.

My FLHX was lowered 2 and a half in the back and it rode fine up to 100 mph....no wobble...

I did notice that my ultra when I bought it seemed more unstable on the highway.....I took off the wind deflectors on the front and it seemed much more stable........

Likely was in my head - - -but either way - - - My head is what matters on my bike....

Steve,  others have noticed an improvement by removing the wind deflectors, and some have not.  Some have also noticed more or less stabilty riding one up or two up. The fork mounted batwing is inherently going to be less stable than a frame mounted fairing...subject to more wiggle from air turbulence, etc.  On the other hand, I think other configurations like my Ducati are more subject to side winds, acting like a sail.  Just for the cornering clearance, I personally would not like mine lower...I can already scrape the floorboard mounting brackets in some curves, even with the suspension fully raised with the Legend system.  I've had my bike up to 105 two up and not noticed any handling issues thus far.  In my opinion, the Legends offer the ability to slam the bike 3.5" for the looks when parked or going from stop to stop, and still maintain the stock geometry and suspension travel when pushing the bike.  I slam mine because I have a 29" inseam and it makes it easier for me to walk the bike around while parking, etc.....a side benefit is that it looks kewl too  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  Don't know all the prices for permanently lowering the bike, but it would probably be as much or more than the air adjustable shocks.

Here's my take on lowering (slamming) a bike:  If you must do this, look at using one of the lowering kits that uses the stock length shocks and moves the lower attachment (White Bros, etc).  This method doesn't reduce shock travel, thus the ride should be better than with shorter shocks.  BTW - the difference in travel between the stock e-glide shocks and the Profile lowered shocks is 1 inch (3.0" stock, 2.0" Profile).

The main reason I want to lower mine in the back is turbulance from the lower windshield.  I just put the ralley runner seat (had to cut the fiberglass) on and I love being back about 3 inches from stock.  I need about 1 inch lower to get little airflow...

How much was the Ledgends Kit?
