It involves drilling holes with template in your lids and pluging into your wiring harness. Any questions pm me. About a 30 min. install.

The templates come with the light kits and the instructions tell you what size drill bit to you.  The bit is standard that is in most drill sets that will do metal or plastic.

Key word would be 'pilot hole'. Or at least use a centerpunch.  Amazing how much sweat forms just as the bit closes in on the lid [smiley=nervous.gif].
Hey, if I can do it, ANYBODY can do it! :D

Any of you know how long it takes to get a matched, painted set for an 05 SEEG?

6-8 weeks or so..............matched piece whole set doesn't matter........unless you do some type of search and get lucky enough to find some dealer with something leftover and in stock.

Another tip is to chamfer (sp) the holes in either side with a large countersink.  This will prevent cracking in the future (old boating trick...but works).

Make sure you have the appropriate washer/spacers.  There have been instances where the screws have been overtightened and cracked the spoiler paint by pushing up on the fiberglass when the screw bottomed out...saw a dealer do this...

Mine are still in the box...waiting on the new saddlebags for the 2006 paint issue...didn't want to drill the exit hole...

Exactly, wing tip vortices as Twolane says!  Pilot talk.  Actually as I said it's strictly personal opinion on my part.  [smiley=soapbox.gif] With the spoiliers on both bags and the tour pak it looks to much like a Goldwing [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] And secondly I hate the thought of drilliing holes in a $33,000 motorcycle. :'(

Was trying to figure a way to add more light to the Frontier.
We were riding in the mountains with Hubbard and Otis and I saw the answer.
Spoiler lights on the saddlebags.
While waiting to get the Frontier I went ahead and put them on the Classic.
***BIG NOTE,***
(Bill was right, don't tighten down to much or they will come thru the top)
I asked Thunder Mountain to install them on the Frontier.

Now does this look like the a$$ end of a Goldwing?(no comment from you Twolane  8-))

IMHO a side benefit is that they look good, the main reason I want them is increased visability. A friend of mine was just sitting at a stop light a couple of weeks ago when some dumb-ass lady was talking on her cell ran right up his butt. He was not hurt but the bike sure was. All she said was she could not see him. Which is why I just ordered the spoilers and got the bright yellow helmet. In fact as soon as I can find a revolving blue or red spotlight, I going to mount it on my head. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Here's another way to get more red in the rear without drilling holes: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442081077&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302514675&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302514675&bmUID=1162697802238&bmLocale=en_US

There is a disclaimer about meeting DOT standards on a SEEG.  Not sure what that's about other than maybe they're too close together on account of our custom turn signal bar.  Nevertheless, 07hd110 (Tommy) had this on his '07 SEUC in MV and it really added a noticeable amount of light to the back of his scoot. I'll second that I was behind it at MV06 and she still can ride!!!!

Jerry, you da man - thanks for confirming!  I figured it was something like that.  I'm gonna do this conversion anyway, and chance that the Barney Fife's of the world just aren't that "up" on the DOT standards.

I think it's less somewhat less of an issue on the back of the bike, anyway.  On-coming traffic needs to be able to discern where I'm going from a good distance for sure, but from behind I'll take the trade-off of the additional red running lights and brake lights for marginally less obvious turn signals.

Brian,

That is exactly the reason - with red t/signals located too close to the brake light, they become less obvious when in the t/signal mode.

I agree Brian, I think it's a fair trade-off to get more light on the rear.

Funny you would say an alternative would be the Panacea setup. I have looked thru all the documentation in the Panacea stuff I have for both my bikes and although there is no discaimer of the lights not being dot complient I dont see anywhere on the lights the dot word. In my experience I seem to remember seeing any dot compient light having the words dot, but on my tail and turn signals I dont remember seeing this. This has always bugged me, hope I'm wrong.......Straighten me out Jerry!

Roy,

I've also wandered through the Kuryakyn web site trying to find a specific statement about compliance with DOT regs, and I can assure you that if there is one it has to be really tiny print.

Roger, I agree completely.  I got the kit 20% off from Benjy's for $44 and spent another $2 on a couple clear 1156 bulbs.  It took all of 10 minutes to remove the seat, install the module, replace the seat and swap out the bulbs and lenses.  For a grand total of $46 and 10 minutes labor to get quite a bit more light out back, this one's pretty much a no-brainer. Due to having the blacked out Panacea tail light that you can hardly see in daylight, I added the HD conversion of turnsignals to stoplights also.  I kept the smoked lenses on them and added red bulbs to give the red stop effect.  That way all lenses on rear are the smoked effect but the lighting is much better.  Also added two small red LED's down low  on each side of the rear fender.....don't notice them until turned on, then they add quite a bit at  night.  :) spyder

Spyder,
I'd be interested in seeing that also. I have the smoked lenses on the back of mines too (w/o the Panacea tailight), and didn't want to give them up. But if I can keep them, and get the extra lights also this may be something I want to look into.

I like the look of the red lenses on my black bike, but agree on the  [smiley=pumpkin.gif] you would leave the grey.  d00d, I have red led bulbs along with the lenses.  You could keep the grey lenses and use the red led bulbs and get a ton of brightness.

Item #: 01261
Rotating / Pulsating 1157 LED
This 1157 Replacement bulb fits right into your existing Brake / Tail Light, and rotates any time your running lights are on; then blinks when your brakes are applied.
MSRP: $29.95  Price: $25.99 ea

I'm pretty sure the rear sockets (on the SEEGs, at least) will only accept an 1156 (single post). [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Are you using the bulbs that Roger spoke of in his post? I would think grinding one of the posts off would defeat one of the purposes (rotation when tail lights are on) of that particular bulb, and if you took the wrong post off you may eliminate the "blinking" brake light or brake light all together? Actually D00d, I probably should have used the term 'lugs' instead of 'posts' to more accurately describe what I'm grinding off.....the off-set lugs that hold the bulb into the socket.  Not the terminal connections/posts that activate the bulb.   Works just fine w/o both of the off-set lugs in place.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  spyder

No D00d, I'm not using the rotating bulbs, rather the true-red 1157 bulbs.  But, I would thing that the rotating bulbs would work if adapted as I do these.  Maybe I'll get some and try......unless you beat me to it.  8-) har!  spyder

Looks great may have to try those.

d00d, the bulbs I showed were a quick grab off the internet, mine don't rotate or blink, just are bright as heck and work the same as standard bulbs.  They are LED though.

CHIT, knew I should not have followed this tread, I could feel it was going to cost me. Well at least it is not as painful as the CHROME starter or HID headlight. :'( :'( :'( :'(

Did mine in about an hour, use masking tape, drill very small hole first and work you way up to the correct size. Measure three times and drill once are all good ideas. Any extra light on the back of the bike is a good idea in my book.

My set came in in 6 weeks. Good luck
