Winterizing

What are some of the winterizing approaches for 110" TC's out there? Are you guys following the manual, doing your own thing or just waking her up every 2-3 weeks over the winter months? If you live somewhere where you can ride year round I don't want to hear about it! In the past I have always opted for the periodic running mainly to see me thru the winter when I need a rumble fix.

Just curious.

The WORST thing you can do is start it.  You run a good chance of creating moisture inside the motor while you get your rumble fix.  Change the oil, put it on a Battery Tender and forget about it 'til Spring.

Put it away clean, dry and waxed. Put it on a battery tender and I'm done. I usually do a tire and oil change plus inspection in Jan/Feb when the dealership usually has 30% off on tires plus a 20% off on service. Bring it home on the trailer and back on the battery tender until the first warm rain washes the salt off the roads.

That's about it.

fresh oil and filter, battery tender, breathable cover, full as possible fuel tank with your favorite fuel stabilizer and run  the motor long enough for the stabilized fuel to reach the injectors or carburetor.
don't start it up until you're ready to ride it next spring as starting it periodically will do nothing but create condensation in the oil and it will not get hot enough to burn it off by running at idle.

All the above..and if any members are electricians or no one. You could choose to run 5watt/ft self regulating heat trace cable all throughout the bike. It's a nice thing if you live in a col climate.  The cover keeps it warm

Typically here in the Charlotte,

November, we can ride 25 out of 30 days,

December, we can ride 20 out of 31 day,

January, we can ride 15 out of 31 days,

February, we can ride 15 out of 28 days,

So we winterize our bikes by riding them.
