Topic: My mom passed this morning (Read 15034 times)

Quite a few of our members have been here to my place over the years. Either stopping by going between east and west or, unfortunately often for the riders, stopping by with bike problems in their travels. My apologies for not keeping track of everyone that's been by and those that have met my mom. But it's a few. A couple of the BSRs have even chatted with her after on the phone too. So to those that have met the old gal just wanted to share that she passed away this morning.

Mom's wishes had always been that when her time came she die at home with no intrusive care and just her and close family here. So that's exactly what we did. She's been ill the last four months or so. It was a respiratory decline that began after a bad flu. COPD and other issues had left her with only barely enough respiratory capacity to begin with and this episode was just a tipping point that started this final decline. She lived a full life though. Died at almost 81 and did so with no significant discomfort. It was a thankfully peaceful passing.

To those that met her and those with parents of their own yet needing our care thanks in advance for the good thoughts. Mom enjoyed it when the riders came by and would chat her up a bit and I enjoyed watching her participate. It was good for her. So my thanks to all that did meet her and took the time to say hi.

Don, I am sorry for your loss but happy for the fine memories you will always be able to fall back on when the sadness crops up. Both my parents have passed and the memories at times brings me to tears of laughter, I hope the same for you.

No way to explain the thought's that flood back with the loss of a parent. She was lucky to not only have passed peacefully, but to have had you for a son. My condolences

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate all the good thoughts. It means more than you can know. For mom at one end of this and my little niece at the other and my sister and I in between I believe, at least I hope, we did this as well as we possibly might have for all of us. I'm ok. It's amazing what a good night's sleep will do when you've not had one for a couple weeks.

Once again; thanks guys. Once again for everyone from mom at one end of this to all of us at the other it is now time to ride on.

Sorry for your loss. I to lost my Mother a few Days from Christmas also. I was 17 at this time. I can still remember telling the Preacher "This is hard but it was the best Christmas Present she could have received" It is always so hard to loose a Loved One. Don, I am so sorry to read about your mom. I know she was a very sweet lady. Both of my parents are still alive and in there 90's. Since our May accident, the plan now is for my wife and I to help them out more, driving,errands and such. Prayers to you and yours. Arland

Sorry for your loss Don. I lost my Dad in September. Always hard to lose them but is a comfort to know they led a full meaningful life. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Don, I'm very sorry to read this. May Love and Peace be with your family.

Your post had two words that that are very important..."Mom's wishes"
Terry just lost his father a few weeks back, there was something that we never discussed with him...Life Support. We talked about everything but Life Support. It's very important that the family knows what the "wishes" are. Everyone needs a Living Will so family members don't have to make those hard decisions.

Thanks again everyone. Means a lot. Mom got her last Christmas last Sunday night. We did her presents and my niece and she did it all together. So grandmother and grandkid will always have the memories of laughing a little and smiling at each other and tearing paper for a few very special last gifts. While it's always an ordeal it was as uncomplicated a passing as we could ever hope for at home. Knew it was coming well enough to do everything necessary to make it easy at the end. Mom was content and I'm getting my sister and niece through the back end now. We're all doing ok.

Don - although we've never met, I am very sad to read of your mother's passing, and I send my sincere condolences to you and your family. I am happy that she was not in pain, and that her passing was peaceful. It sounds as if she had a good life, and that's something in which you can take comfort.

Don, I am sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I know it is hard to loose a parent (as both my parents are
gone and mom was the last to go) and its a little harder when the last parent is gone. My thoughts and

Wow.... that's all I can say is wow...... Mom wanted her clothes, shoes, coats and the like to go the Disabled American Veterans goodwill type store. I knew there was a lot. Even a lot that hadn't seen the light of day in, perhaps, millenia. But today say four full pickup loads go. And there's still a partial load remaining. Clothes in her huge closet, clothes in the spare bedroom closet, stuff in the overfilled entry hall closet, stuff in the storage room in the basement, stuff in the attic, even socks between the mattresses. Wow. And this doesn't address all the rest of the stuff that needs yet to be moved, stored, tossed, etc. This is just clothes.... Wow. Doing ok with most of this. Occasionally some item catches me out of left field and turns on the memory machine forcing a little break. But so far so good. Still riding on. More than four FULL pickup loads..... Wow.....

Sorry about your Momma Don! Sorry I'm just now seeing this! I never had the pleasure of meeting her but being YOUR Mom she had to have been a saint to have to put up with you!!!

You are absolutely correct in she lived a full life and blessed in good health until recently and going the way she wanted to. I know you all will miss her dearly. I will be praying for you my friend. Need a get away I'm right up the road a piece, come see me. God Bless ya and Love ya man!!!

Thanks again everyone. All the good thoughts are really appreciated. The ups and downs and the passing of days have reached what I suppose is the inevitable point of some intrafamilial squabbles. Thanks Mike and everyone else. The messages here and in PM and the phone calls have been heartfelt and overwhelming. More so here than the great majority of what has come in (or not come in) from "real life." Riders are the best people out there.

We lost my wife's dad at Thanksgiving. He was our last surviving parent so it was a milestone. He was 92 so had a great, long life as we'll and he passed peacefully so we know what a Blessing that is.
