07 FLHTCUSE2 Down
« on: November 17, 2006, 01:31:15 AM »

Today I took my 07 FLHTCUSE2 in for it's 1000 mile service, but about an hour after I dropped her off I got a call from the service manager. He said I have good news and bad news. I said what is the good news, he said you are getting a new engine for your bike. I said what is the bad news? He said the rear cylinder has an oil lead and yuor bike is going to be down until Harley sends out a new engine. I was completely dumbfounded by this! But the sales and service managers are awesome at my dealer here at Cycle City they gave me a loaner bike until mine is fixed and they are also going to put on any performance upgrades that I buy while the bike is down waiting for the new engine. So today I bought Rinehart true duels, SE/AC and SERT for them to put on the bike when the new Engine arrives. So I will give details in a weeks or so when my baby comes out of the shop. Also the service manager said that Harley wants my engine back to perform tests on it to see why the cylinder leaked oil. I am also getting a new engine with matching VIN.

07 CVO,

I am sorry to hear of your issues this is like the 5th or 6th one that I have heard about.  Hogasm knows of 1 or 2 in his area, we had another one with oiling issues in my area here and a couple I have heard of in Indiana.  Hopefully Harley will deliver your motor in a timely manner.   I applaud your dealer for the handling of your issues, but if possible please try to find out what the cause is in detail if you can.   I am sure myself and many others will be waiting with open ears so to speak to know what to look out for.  BTW do they have a dyno and are they willing to throw in a free tune with the parts you buy?

Thanks for the heads up and really sorry to hear about your downtime.

The oil leak is on the bottom of the rear head, and my bike was down about a quart when they looked at it.

Actually it's not because of the head gasket.  It's because the cast motors expand and contract a LOT.  Ever do a top end tear down?  The head bolts aren't torqued very high to allow for the expansion of the motor.  When she expands (get's hot) all the joints actually tighten up.

Worst thing you can do is start up a cold engine and then hammer that throttle.

Cheers, J

CigarMike, I should have elaborated, they are going to DYNO the new engine AFTER I break it in. Because they WILL NOT rev the engine all the way up on a cold new engine. Roy the service manager said when I bring it back in for it's next 1000 mile service he would like to put it on the DYNO to make sure it is all performing properly.

Something for everyone to think about, if your rear head badge is yellowed, your engine is running too hot and you are going to require a new head gasket. So anyone who was complaining about the head on the 110 not being engraved like the 103. This cheap badge may be our first indicator of a head gasket problem.

At least, they are replacing your whole engine, I like that better than a repair job. GL with the new one.

I bet this is due, at least in part, to the rear cylinder heat issues. Anyone have any pics or links to pics of the discolored badge?
