REAR TIRE SIZE
« on: November 17, 2006, 05:32:01 PM »

I know this has been discused before but WHAT SIZE TIRE ARE YOU RUNNING ON THE REAR?

I just changed the rear on Punkin. I went with a Dunlop 150. It looked like it would fit but I had to modify the belt guard. Look good but the load rating is a little lower than the stock tire.

Dawg,

You might find this an interesting project.  A good friend of mine just put a 200 tire on a stock 04 Softtail and used the stock swingarm and it worked fine.   Dealers and a few others said it couldnt be done.   Only had to build one custom spacer to get it to work.   If he had waited 6 months he could have bought an 07 rear fender instead of having his own made.  I was hoping to grab a picture of it before he moved, but he is in process of moving now from Florida to Chattanooga.

Personally I run stock Dunlops on all 3 of the bikes.   In years past I always changed the ultra out from a 130 to a 140.

I'm running an Avon 150/70-18 on the rear, also had the modify the belt guard alittle, it's tight but works fine [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Got a Metzeler 880 150/80 on the rear of mine.  I get about 7500 miles on a rear tire and I am on my third one (second Metzeler).  Don't get any better milage from a Dunlop, but I prefer the handling qualities of the Metzeler.

I'm running a Metzeler ME880 160/60VR18 and love it! Won't go back to anything else. It's mounted on a 18x4.25 rim. I forgot what the load rating is, but it's acceptable for the bagger. Bolted right up no issues. But my belt guard has been off since '04 so that would have been notched out.

Hey, Dawg, my granddad used to tell me that my best quality was that I learned by example (instead of "the hard way")!  Since Grover's bike will leave you all standing still (with his wife onboard), I would recommend that you follow his example!!!!!

P.S.  Was it Grover doing wheelies with his wife on board too?

d00d, V is the one that brought it up.
True, but that statement is up there with the question your wife might ask you.... "Do these jeans make my butt look big?" There is no right answer. [smiley=nervous.gif] I've learned in life there is no sentence that involves the two "W's" that is safe. Two "W's" being Woman and Weight!!!!

Dawg, Dawg, Dawg,

It seems that you have made a grave error with that slip of the keyboard.   If V reads it as others are seeing it you just implied the wrong things .... Good thing she is thin as a rail it will only put you in the doghouse for a little while.

The wrong inference is only a doghouse away my friend.

You may not realize, but you will probably pay dearly hehe.

/jewelry /flowers /candy /dress these things may help lessen your exile.

P.S.  Guys, guys, guys!  I'm not fragile or insecure!  I've weighed a little less and a lot more!  PLUS I have a brother that is brutally honest.

Dawg,
Don't be skeered to ride B%##$H, remember what she promised to wear for me if I rode on the V-Rod. I imagine she would wear something even better for you. ;) [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Grover, did you mean 4.25 [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I'm glad you caught that Brian. My mistake. Yes, It's a 4.25.
Good eye [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I corrected my original post.

Thanks,

Just wait till you are on the back of Punkin. [highlight]The extra weight on the rear wheel will cause that bike to hook up.[/highlight] You saw how high it came off the ground in second didn't you????? Wait till you see the hole shot in first.

Be Safe my Princess

THE DAWG

Yes indeed with the extra weight, it's much easier to hook up. But it'll come off just as nice solo. Just needs a softer touch.

And speaking of the extra weight...I also lose h.p to the ground. I think for every 7 pounds you loose 1 h.p. So that would put me at about a 25 h.p disadvantage with my sweetie on board :-[
Damn [smiley=nervous.gif]! How am I gonna break the news to Lynn that we both need to loose weight or get more engine mods. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] ;D

She's real understanding, she'd probably give me some leather goods...
That'd be a belt in the mouth and a boot in the ass [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] ;D

Take care, ;) [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Grover,  that rear tire you have "Metzler 880" is a softer compound than the Dunlop which helps in the rear end hooking up. The width you have doesn't hurt either. I put the tour pack on, lowered the air in the rear tire to 35lbs and almost went all the way over [smiley=nervous.gif] Need to practice a little more [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Hogasm.

ps.  Grover and the Dawg are going to be in the dawg house together if they keep up with the weight comments. ;D
