Removal of clear paint protection film?
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:35:55 PM »

Does anyone have experience removing the clear paint protective film. I have 08 CUSE, I would like to remove film off rear fender where the rear seat attachment bolt is. Any help would be appreciated.

I just pulled mine off last week while doing the tour pack removal in anticipation of a new solo seat soon. It just peeled right off with finger tips. No residue left, only some surronding dirt which cleaned right up. My rear plastic was two pieces.

It's just real tough tape. Peel it off and remove any residue with mineral spirits or other mild solvent.

Mine came right off with a gentle, firm tug. If the bike is cold however you may want to do as others suggest and heat the fender with a hair dryer before attempting removal. The adhesive comes off very easily with mineral spirits and you'll end up with a clean, sleek appearing rear fender.

;) I have done it many times , use a hair dryer and do not get bit to hot . Pick at a corner then peal to the straight edge not kitycorner. keep pulling gently and apply heat right at the point where the tape is lifting at the metal.

An old thread, but...
Attempted to remove the clear film off of my bike and, unfortunately, in one section of it there is quite a bit of adhisive left on the fender. Any advice on what exactly I should use in order to remove the adhesive and not hurt the clearcoat? :confused5:

Thanks in advance,

I've never done it but I would assume that a heat gun or blow drier would be the way to go

I just took mine off and it was a bitch.  Heated the plastic and pulled it off without a lot of effort.  Now for the glue residue, that was a different story.  Tried: peanut butter, windex, purple power, vinegar, bug remover and lighter fluid.  None Worked!

Finally used my heat gun (a blow dryer would not get it near hot enough).  Got it real hot and rub a layer off with a microfiber towel.  Had to heat and rub some areas five or six times.  The MOCO sure didn't want that piece of plastic coming off with the type of glue they used.

Use a product called Rapid Remover for the adhesive residual, harmless product and works great.

I ended up using 3M Adhesive Remover. Just spray it on and wipe the glue residue off.

Didn't use heat and the same thing happened on my '10.

Use a little heat....it won't hurt.
