Took The Nana Into Brian (Rosey)
« on: December 02, 2006, 01:11:32 PM »

Dropped Ole Gertie off to Brian @ Bumpus to have him do a little magic to her, 575 Cams gear drive, SE high comp pistons, head work and porting, replace PC w/ SERT and a few other Christmas goodies. I'll let you know what I have when I ger her back.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] (hope it stays rainy and cold till then) ;D

Mark, the 575s were designed for stock heads and pistons.  Might wanna check with Zipper's about what other cams of theirs would be best for the combination of SE pistons and head work you're having done.

Mark, there's the 657, that Don mentioned, but I'm not aware of a 577.

Also, curious if you're staying with your V&H slip-on mufflers or doing something with the exhaust, too?  And, what about the Feuling oil pump and lifters?

Thanks Brian, I'll talk to Brian R. and find out. I have given him a free hand to use his own judgement but I will talk to him Tuesday before he starts. [highlight]Is there a 577 cam?[/highlight] I thought that is what he told me but I just assumed I'd misheard and it was a 575.

Zippers has a 557 cam that is a TQ cam for a heavy bike. The 575 was designed to raise static compression and to fool the motor into thinking it had a much higher compression ratio. If you use this cam with high comp pistons you will run into trouble. Also I would check with Zippers and see about sending your heads to them. Their CNC machine has a program designed just for our heads. Then you could run the 567 cam with no problem. Tuen around time is minimal.

Be Safe

All Right Mark!!!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

How exciting bro! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] Brian Rose is an awesome tuner but I would do my homework 1st. I would get Zippers opinion since it's their cams and they have a lot of research and development with our 103 engines. I enjoyed talking with Tony at Zippers and he advised and I decided what direction I wanted to go.

We are fortunate to have a Brian Rose in our area, but it was my bike and my money and I decided the direction I went after listening to Zippers, Brian, and the Genius's on this site!!

Boy I can't wait to see and ride with you when you get that baby home!!!!!! Congrats, Good luck, and God Bless! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I don't think anyone with the 575 is going to top what you got Brian.  That had to be a beautiful tuning job on a motor that came out on a very good day  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .

Brian, don't know and am afraid to go see. Got an e-mail from Jerry this morning and it made me a little nervous. Here is what he wrote:
"Mark, teaching Riders Edge this weekend and I saw your bike on Brian Rose's work table.  What all are you doing to it.  Know you are going to gear drive came but he had the jugs off.  Those were some wicked looking piston in there.  You blowing it out to 113" or what?  What about the heads?  Leaving stock or changing them?  What pipes?  Can't recall, you got V&H true duals on there now?  That thing will be wicked when you finish."
Since it has warmed up to 35 now I think I will head over there and find out. I will let ya know.

Just came home from visiting Gertie. She is in a million peices, glad I don't have to put her back together. Only one real change from the original plan and that was to change to the V&H true duals since I already had the V&H slip-ons. Brian did find some small problems that they replaced under warranty, like the oil pump, OEM badly scored. Should be ready next week. If it doesn't warm up, I may have to sit and look at her, 19 is too damn cold!
