I was worried about the road conditions today. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I was thinking 30-40mph for 200 miles. It was 70mph for about 60 % with bumps from frost heaves. You had to slow down to 50 when hitting them. I assumed they would all be 90 degrees to the shoulder. But a lot were up and down the road, so you just rode them like you would a cross wave in a boat. Up and down the trough. Like a roller coaster or mild moto-cross, but after two hours even that got old. Then 3 pilot cars for about a mile each, and several gravel sections of 5 mi each. They don't use blacktop, it's rock and sand compacted will a roller and maybe a little oil. That's why they have to rework it all the time.
I was first in line and got to talk to this cute girl for awhile waiting for the pilot car. She wants a Harley---I told her marry a rich man. She said"well, I'm looking, but there aren't many around here". She is working towards her class C (?) license so she can drive the trucks. She can already drive the "chipper" which lays down chips of gravel in potholes. Interesting talk, then the pilot car came and I was off.
