Anyone else getting rust on their CVO?
« on: August 22, 2014, 02:09:42 AM »

I don't ride in the rain (much) and the humidity is quite dry here. The bike see water when I wash it.

I don't think it should be rusting that quickly|badly.

I have the same color and have not checked where you are showing. If it is the spacers (washer) that you are referring to that should be zinc plated at the least and not showing rust. It appears to be unplated. I would have dealer replace that.

Best I can see on my phone is that the steering head shafts not a spacer? I will look at mine when I get home. It should still be plated I would thing being exposed where it is.

Well I am riding my 10 Wide Glide, just looked and it does have some rust there. Surface rust like showing on yours.

What you're seeing is the bottom end of the steering stem (shaft), and it isn't plated.  Easy enough to treat with a little Rustoleum Rust Reformer or similar product.

You don't see that on the Touring models because they have a separate cover that bolts on to the lower fork bracket that hides it.  The Softail's and Dyna's don't come with such a cover.

Yes. Anything adding thickness (plating, paint) would inhibit the shaft pulling through the bearing inners if needed to be removed

I checked mine no rust. If you actually scrubbed under there when washing may have removed any residual oil from assembly? I don't think the shaft would be stainless. As posted before have a Dyna with some spots there and a Fat Boy that appears the shaft end was painted.

Mine did the same thing in the same spot. I cleaned the rust off and applied some chrome paint. It looks better now.
Just one more rusty spot on my breakout. Rear fender replaced twice and tank once due to rust. many other issues as well.

I love the bike and it runs great but spends most of its time in the shop fixing little things that keep breaking.

Yes, was adjusting my headlight this weekend after installing a daymaker and I saw it. Also, need to get the rear fender replaced now. 2013 Molten silver. There is bad rust under the plastic covers where the driver seat, bolt posts pass through.
