2009 Brake issue .... yikes
« on: August 28, 2014, 09:44:09 AM »

Ok this is weird, (2009 streetglide)

A friend of mine rode his bike on a 6000 km trip came home put the bike away. Couple days later went to move bike and NO back brakes pedal goes to the floor. Fluid is up and NO leaks. Any Ideas.

I'd look at simple first...check for crud on/around the caliper pistons.  There are YouTube videos on how to clean them with brake cleaner.

I'd suspect air in the system.  If he spent time in the thin air of the (high elevation) mountains, I'd strongly suspect air in the system.  Bleed the system thoroughly.  Power bleed it if possible.  It takes a lot less temperature to overheat the fluid at elevation.  Both the clutch system fluid and the brake system fluid are far more susceptible to overheating and introducing air into the fluid at elevation - and of course you can introduce air to the system without having any signs of a leak.  The rear brake in particular requires very little air in the system to loose the pedal.

Maybe the rear switch.  See here:  Brake Switch Recall for 2009-2012

When the dealer replaced mine, the line was not sufficiently tightened.  The leak was almost too small to find but I nearly lost all rear braking.

Well no idea how or what happened but managed to bleed the brakes and got a lot of air out and all is good.
