Question about obsolete part # (Fairing Mirrors)
« on: December 16, 2006, 10:35:04 PM »

I need to replace one of the fairing mounted mirrors on my SEEG (the mirror itself is cracked).  Since I purchased these, they have changed the way they mount to the fairing (see photos).  Can someone who's had experience with anything similar tell me if there is a way to search dealer stock for the prior version of these?  I'm hoping to find a set of 91945-98A (on the left in the photo).  The current part number is 91945-98B (on the right in the photo).

I think the new ones can be made to work, but would like to find the ealier style, if at all possible.  Thanks for any help.

Brian,
Take the broken one to an Autoglass shop. They can custom fit to your old housing. I've done it before on old cars. Man wait a minute, with that garage you've got, you HAVE to know that already. I'll bet you broke this on purpose trying to get some GLARE on the inside surface of the mirror mount.

Bri, if they're willing to do so your parts guy at your parts counter is able to do that.  Only the very very few shops that aren't on the HDNET can't.  If they don't have what you need in stock they should be willing to do it.  And if they're willing they can give you a print out of stock location for every dealership everywhere in the country.

Brian, just got off the phone with the local parts counter.  They show three dealers in the entire country currently reporting having that part number still on the shelf.  Always the possibility of phantom inventory of course.  But the phone numbers to call are:

256-383-5814  Fosters Harley Davidson
850-862-4706  Heritage Cycle Ft Walton Beach
985-872-4380  a shop in Louisiana whose name I did not get

Don, thanks for checking for me!  That's more help than the dealer here gave.  I don't see those first two in the dealer locator on Harley's website, but I'll try all the numbers here shortly.  Maybe they will have holiday hours and be open today, too.

Well, 3 strikes you're out!  I called all three numbers but no one had any of the A's.  Thanks again though, Don, for chasing the potential inventory on these for me.  Still can't believe the dealer here could not, or would not, do that for me. >:(

Hey Brian-

I wrote down the part # your looking for. I'm gonna talk to my dealership tomorrow to see what they can find. They're usally pretty darn good at locating hard to find pieces for me. Hopefully they can come through this time also.

Good help is one thing, but these guys sound priority-challenged.

Thanks for the welcome back.  Glad to be home.  The trip was ok too.  But it's always good to make it home in time for Christmas.

B, did think about that, but it has the B&S and "OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR" etched into the glass.

Don, thanks for the links to the eBay ones.  I'd already been out there trying to see if I could luck out on finding a set, but only see used and they look sorta scuffed and chitty in the photos, which means they'll only be a lot worse in person.

Might try giving Jenni at Benjy's a call on Monday to see what she has to say about it.

Brian  why does that make a big difference [smiley=nixweiss.gif] or are you used to object bieng closer than they appear [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Big list.  My local dealer looked and only found three reporting with stock.  Hope something scores from somewhere!

Forget about the dealer in Alabama...I called them to check on it for you on the Watts line here at work.  Haven't got one. :(

Hey there Brian #14,

My main dealership is closed until Jan. 2nd. I went to another one of my favorite do good dealerships.....He gave me the list and said that it's usually pretty acurate, and if the item can't be located to get back to him and he'll see what he can do.

I sure hope with all the phone calls Brian will score.

If not, next Tuesday I'll do some more searching at my main dealership.

Have a great New Year [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Just in from fishing, nothing yet from my painter. I will call him tomorrow from the boat to see if he found the set he has. Hopefully he will have good news for you.

There is a brand new pair on eBay that ends Tuesday.  I'm going to chase those before starting on the list from Mark.

Brian, let me know what you find out.  Would be a good back-up in case things don't pan out with these eBay ones.  I would consider buying an additional pair, as well, even if I do get the eBay ones.  Thanks for the help!!

[highlight]Many thanks to 'd00d for pointing out an eBay auction [/highlight]for a single right-side mirror like the one I needed the other day.

Brian, I have one left mirror. That is all my painter had. Actually he has 2 left mirrors, but he only let me have 1.

The story I got about the change is that the first ones hit the fairing before some people were able to adjust it to their liking.

Got my single (right hand) mirror in the mail today and the other complete set I had been watching on eBay before Gary pointed out the auction for the single one to me.  All three are PERFECT, so the search is over.  This way, I'll have a right side one to replace my damaged one, and a spare set in case something stooopid happens again.

Thanks again to all who helped me out on this!  Can't say it enough, I really appreciate it!
