Latest compensator
« on: October 03, 2014, 08:59:06 AM »

He there, this past summer I was reading a thread on this forum about a brand new, tweaked, compensator that will be coming out by the end of the summer of 2014.  Just wondering if any of you know anything abut the  Latest compensator? Have a bike in the shop that need one and would like to replace with the latest. Thanx .

I just had mine replaced in late Aug with the latest design. Took the bike back in on Monday because of the very noticable clunking compensator at idle and low rpm take offs.

If you ask me, Harley has failed once again!

Willy, I'd say something stupid like my '09 still has the same comp that it came with, but if I do say that, it will probably crap out on me...

So I won't say that!

Yeah, don't say that. You don't want to jinks yourself.

Did Harley change something in 2010? I really never hear about failed compensators on earlier years. If it works maybe I need to change to them.

Harley made a change to the drivetrain in 2007 called CruiseDrive that required a substantially different compensator than prior years.  Unfortunately, Harley has yet to come up with a compensator with any longevity since 2007...

27,000 +/- and about 400 on the new compensator.

My recently replaced (Aug) new compensator is still at the dealer waiting on a response from Harley Tech guys on a solution to the heavy knocking sound after 400 miles.

Just heard back from the dealer. Harley Tech wants them to install a shim washer behind the thrust spring washers. Harley Tech had the dealer measure the crank extension on that side and came up with this shim washer idea.

Harley Tech said they are sending the shim washer they want them to use.

Hmmm, I suppose this is to add additional spring force?

We'll see!

No idea when they will complete the bike. Dealer said that Harley TEch did not give them a time frame when they asked.

Why don't Harley go back to the old EVO style compensators?
I have almost 70,000 on mine with a S&S V 111 motor. 118 HP@
122 TO and no problems at all with compensator or chain or clutch hub. I am on 2nd Diamond Primary Cain

Because the change to "cruise drive" starting in 2007 there is significantly more stress put on the driveline, especially the crankshafts.  With the old style compensator, the driveline would take a beating.  Better the compensator than the crankshaft?  Actually better neither, but in going on 8 years, the MOCO hasn't figured out how to do it yet...  Not sure their really trying, though...   :nixweiss:

I have about 60,000 on my rivera compensator, 10,000 of that was with a 110" S&S with 125hp and 50,000 with the 127" which has been driven hard so I don't see how anyone can say the EVO compensator wasn't strong enough for the cruise drive it seems to me the Cruise Drive is not as strong.

Hey all
Get with GMR Performance. Ton of info on the topic and the fix is available there.  These newest comps are noisy out of the box. Why is explained there along with what has to be done to fix it.
