Heated grips and seat not working
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:21:22 AM »

After leaving my gloves at the house yesterday mourning and deciding to use the heated grips I found them and the seat not working.  Looked through the manual and it does not list a fuse....
Not sure what else to look for....any ideas?  Would rather not have to take to dealer.

All fuses are good. There are 5 plus the 50a main.
And the only thing not working are the grips and seat.   Guess it's off the the dealer.....

Same thing happened to me, found out the grips were not plugged in inside the faring, and the seat was unplugged under the seat, there is no fuse just for the grips.

Have they worked in the past, or was this the first time you tried them?  As ole bill mentioned, some people have found that the seat was never plugged in to the bike harness.  It wouldn't surprise me to find that both items were never plugged in.  Obviously H-D doesn't test this stuff before they ship it out the door.

They both worked last winter.
Changed bars a while back so there's a possible cause for the grips I thought. Just finished checking the grip connections and they are good. (Under the radio and at the Y where it goes into the bars.   The seat is plugged in so that has me wondering what is going on.

Sorry to hear about your problems Blueprint. I would imagine you have a bad seat. Check with dealer. As far as your grips if the dealer didn't do your bars they won't honor your warranty on your grips. Heat Demons are what I did to fix heated grips. Great product and customer service second to none. Much cheaper then what the dealer wanted to charge me to identify the problem with stock grips. Controller looks really cool too.

Mine didn't work on my new bike a couple of weeks ago I found this out on the way to the dealer for the clutch recall. This was a week before we were heading to the Tail of the Dragon. I told them I really wanted my grips to work over there in the mountains. After checking it they said it was the left grip bad and they would have to order grips but the grip were on back order and may be a month or longer. I was pissed. I talked to the manager of the dealership and asked him if they'd take the grips off my old bike I traded in.
They did and old bike is still setting in their shop with no fairings or handle bars waiting on grips. But they have a happy customer and my hands stayed warm in the mountains.  :2vrolijk_21:

I don't think they are related since they are on different circuits.

For the seat the accessory switch needs to be one.

As for the grip...when mine failed...if found that the jumper plug on the end of the right grip had come loose.  You can access this plug by removing the grips end cap and check it with needle nose pliers.

Grips working again.....one connector not fully locked in
It took going over connections a couple of times to find it.....

Still trying to figure out the seat.....could there be a pressure switch in the heat element?

If you have power to the plug that connects to the seat, the dealer will have to order you a new seat.
