What the _ _ _ _ happened??
« on: February 13, 2008, 09:24:02 AM »

At first I  thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's  fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries,
then Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,

" Taxes drove me to my doom..."

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax
Airport Tax
Building Permit Tax
Car Rental Tax
CDL license Tax

STILL THINK  THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of  these taxes existed 100 years ago,  and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What the _ _ _ _  happened?

Can you spell   "politicians!"

And I still have  to "press 1" for  English.

I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times

I don't see "hotel tax" in that list that forces out of towners to pay for local services.

JG, good call, added hotel and car rental tax.  Washington adds 8% to the already 9.2% car rental as do other states as well, also a restaurant tax to pay for the stadiums here.

Also, Airport Tax, Drainage Tax.............any others?

We were not heading into a socialistic society 100 years ago.  We were more capitalistic at the time, & our govt. was much smaller.

The slippery slope slide into socialism is defined in part by redistribution of wealth.

The slippery slope slide into socialism is defined in part by redistribution of wealth.

I am a business owner and have been taxed until I'm sore >:(  The poem is all true!

100 years ago we didn't have a government that thought it was unfair that someone, who had busted their a$$ to acquire what they wanted, had more than the poor folks that only did what they absolutely had to do to get by.

Our government has been and is continuing to swing from a capitalist system to a socialist system.  The really sad thing about our "socialist" system is that it creates apathy.....many smart and talented individuals now have no motovation to excel and contribute to society.  For some, why should they?... Our socialist politicians are going to stifle them and over tax them anyway....
....besides isn't it just easier to let the government take care of you --- I mean after all, they have to do something with ALL THOSE TAXES THEY ARE COLLECTING FROM THOSE THAT ARE STILL GETTING UP EVERY MORNING AND BREAKING THEIR BACKS TO FINANCE THE GOVERNMENT.

I am telling you people, you better think about this before you go vote.  We have to start trying to move back the other direction.  We have to change the way our political representatives are chosen.  We have to make it possible for good men & women, that care about this once great country, to successfully run for political office and stop the BIG MONEY SOCIALIST SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS from choosing our leaders.  We are all becoming brainwashed, because we continue to vote for these jokers.  I mean, come on, how can Mass. keep electing Ted Kennedy :soapbox:

Ok, enough......I've got to get back to work so I can pay MORE TAXES or some crack-head out there on welfare may starve to death.

Like the song says..

Tax the rich to feed the poor
Until there are no rich no more

I don't mind paying, it is my privilege to live in a country where I can accumulate a few extra bucks now and then  but it does get a little thick at times....like last week when I had to stroke a big fat check to the treasury after paying all year long as well.  Could bought a lotta beer with that....

Don't mind pulling my weight either Miker, but for example the State of Washington has a tax on "Busines and Occupation" for my retaill business the city and stat B&O tax is .0068, not so bad you say.

On a dollar what is so bad about .0068 cents?  Well, it is on every dollar we take in, EVERY DOLLAR.  So do the math, sell an average car for what everyone wants to buy one for $100.00 over invoice.......avg. $28,000.00 x .0068= $190.40.  Now we all know that dealers get some holdback etc. but consider this.

That "little" Washington tax accumulates to be more than the average Washington dealer pays in US Income Tax.

Oh well, it keeps the beauracrats working for "us"!

30m people with more land than the US, that's tough math to make compute.

At least you can shop down here and save a buck or two on the exchange rate, come on down :2vrolijk_21:

To answer the question "What the _ _ _ _ happened?", I think we could all stand to look in the mirror and do some soul searching.  The same folks who decry assistance to the poor are often the first in line to seek special treatment for their own business or special interest, ultimately at the general taxpayer's expense.  Government has gotten bigger over the years because the people have demanded more and more services.  I'm quite used to hearing folks asking for government to take over responsibility for more new things all the time; I haven't seen many demanding that government return any responsibilities directly to the people.  Citizens in general seem to want everyone else to pay for their favorite programs, no matter how many actually benefit from the program.  Originally government provided for things that affected everyone, like providing for a common defense and regulation of interstate commerce.  Infrastructure like roads and bridges also fell naturally under the government umbrella, as opposed to everyone doing their own thing.  The reason government, and therefore taxation, has grown so much is directly related to all the various services that have been added to the basics over the years (and of course the fact that government became a very lucrative business for politicians and bureaucrats, who expanded government for their own benefit).

While I am just as opposed to handouts to support the lazy and the cheaters as anyone else, I also realize that the poor in this country are in fact not the largest beneficiaries of government largess.  That distinction goes to the wealthy and what is left of the middle class.  If the only government spending that was eliminated was the money spent on "lazy welfare cheats", the savings to the average taxpayer would be as hard to find as a pimple on a gnats ass.

One of the things that I love is how the folks many call "yuppies" have created massive expansion in the once small towns surrounding the large cities that provide those six and seven figure salaries they covet.  It seems these folks like the fat salaries, but don't want to pay the fat taxes that go with big cities or have to deal with the crowding, crime, etc.  So they flee in droves to sleepy little towns, drive up the price of real estate to ridiculous levels that the locals cannot afford, and then start demanding services from local government like those offered in the big city.  Local taxation increases rapidly, often forcing out the long time residents.  Of course, the developers and yuppies don't care, that just means more real estate available for development, usually supported by special tax breaks for the developers like TIF's which just shift more of the tax burden onto the regular citizens.  After decades of this sort of thing, the cities are left with a higher percentage of the poor to deal with at the same time the wealthier people have taken their tax money to the suburbs.  The suburbs are faced with ever increasing taxes to support the programs of the yuppies as well as infrastructure, schools, etc. that the population increases demand.  Pretty easy to see with just this one little example how taxation could grow exponentially compared to 100 years ago.

Eliminating welfare cheats is a commendable goal, but anyone who thinks that alone would provide meaningful tax relief for the average person just hasn't looked into the situation deeply enough.  What "breaks" do you enjoy, and are you willing to give them up for the benefit of everyone else?  How about that huge tax break called the mortgage interest deduction, just to name one?
