I bought my bike with about 6500 miles on it. It had a very short 3 1/2 or so high HD windshield on it. After having it for a bit, I noticed that at both fastening points on the side, there were cracks that were slowly growing.
I'd had a chance to try a bike with the HD Windspllitter and I liked the additional height, so I replaced my windshield with the taller Windsplitter.
Within a week, cracks developed at the fastening points. When I replaced it, I use the recommended torque settings. Didn't leave it loose or overtighten it. I talked to the folks at the dealership about getting in a new one and the parts guy said he'd check into it and see if he could get it replaced under warranty. HD replaced it under warranty.
When the new one came, I dragged him out into the parking lot. (lol, not really, he's a friend and neighbor as well). I had a torque wrench on me and we replaced the old one and put the new one on in the parking lot.
10k miles later......I have a new crack forming. I don't mind replacing with a more expensive option. I just want one that lasts. Any recommendations for a quallity brand that won't crack? Thank you for your suggestions.

After a little detective work, I see your bike is a CVO SG. John at Freedomshields will take great care of all of your windshield needs.

I second the recommendation of John at Freedom Shields. Excellent product and customer service.

Lance, Kathy’s bike has a freedom shield on it and had one on my old bike. They are nice and are thicker than the stock shield. My wind splitter is cracking too and I find myself contemplating a new shield. Kathy has had her freedom shield on for about 7 years and the only marks on it are from the windshield bags.
Another nice thing about freedom shield is as long as you leave the plastic on you can test it and if you want a different size you can exchange it.

Another recommendation for Freedom Shields. Call John, he is great at customer service & gives great advice. Have had Freedom Shields on several bikes over the years, always good results, they are thicker than stock shields.

Love the Freedom Shields on my Sharks. They are thicker as mentioned so be prepared for a bit of a gap at the top on the fairing on a batwing.

Thank you for the replies.
The touring version looks like it contours to the batwing fairing a little more closely than the Windspllitter does.
Pricing is super reasonable....wow.
Again, many thanks!!!

Keep it under 100mph or get a Freedom Shield and go as fast as you want. John at FS is a standup guy with great customer service. He will take the time to help you choose the right shield for your bike. The quality of these shields at a competitive price makes them a no-brainer. I can't say enough good things about these shields.

Lol, Every shield i’ve had will get a small crack at one of the mounting points, as long as they don’t spread I don’t worry about it.

Anyone ever have a Freedom Shield crack? (crickets) Didn't think so. LOL :jack:

I would suggest that whoever tighten the screws at the base of the windshield, turned the screws just a half turn too much. Should be snug not real tight.
Be careful with your new shield not to over tighten the screws. Speaking from experience, ;D it is very easy to do and is usually the cause of cracking at that point.

My Klock Works 14" sport flair as a small crack at the left most mountain point. Shield is on its 3rd bike, the 15 SERGU, the 18 SERG and now the 19 SERG. So it has over 100,000 miles on it. I'll replace it once it gets a little worse

Keep it under 100mph......
but, how will i ever get airborne......
if it's not meant to go that fast, they should have never made it capable of going that fast.... :P
