John you're probably already aware of it, but in case you're not.........the
Dakota Digital Hidden Antenna works great. There is a thread on here, somewhere.
It is a small (1x3") piece that mounts inside your front fairing. Neater, cleaner than either of the rear antennas and in the end, also cheaper. No hassel of the antenna being in the way, messing with connecting or disconnecting when you put on or take of the tour pak, etc.

I have to say that I am less that impressed with the DD Antenna...that said, I can not compare it to the stock antenna since I had the dealer install one before delivery.
The range on FM is pretty pathetic compared to the radio in my cars.
I am thinking of going to the stock setup to compare since I have all the takeoff parts from the dealer.

The Dakota antenna would solve this problem, but alas I think I wish to use the whip antenna as I often ride (north of DC in Gettysburg area or East near Ocean City) on fringe FM reception areas. [smiley=helmet.gif]

I would tend to agree with you, I have moved mine to two different spots inside the fairing and improved reception both times. Not sure I am done yet playing. However, the no antenna look is cool and I hate getting poked in the eye! [smiley=laugh.gif]

The dealership put mine in, so I'm not sure where he put it, under the fairing. He did mention to me that they've put quite a few in and that they're supposed to be away from any mass metal.
My radio works as well or better than my stock antenna did. It even works in the mountains, where my stock radio on the bike, did not. It's never worked as well as my truck or car......not even on my Ultra Classics. And riding out across the desert states of Nevada, Utah and Ariz and some other states, there are areas where I didn't get reception on my Ultras and I expect that to be the same. And that's why we have a CD player [smiley=laugh.gif]

Looks like that Satellite Radio mod will have to come sooner reather than later!

Satellite Radio Is the only way to go. Have a XM Roady on my Road Glide. Mounted on handle bars on a Bicycle/handlebar pedestal with all the wires tucked away.

DD antenna..I monted mine above the speaker as close to the top of the fairing and it works great...
XM.. check out my homepage(look for the icon) it works great except when riding around large mountains (ie the black hills) . It needs to see the southern sky..big enough mountains can block this. I lost reception while riding down the mountain roads in the national park but it worked everywere else I have been...in texas there are not many big mountains.

Cabo, I saw your XM setup and wanted one...I would probably set the channel and forget it and I would still be able to use the stock volume control. Therefore I could mount it anywhere, maybe even the lower fairing.
Even though I'm a New Englander, I like both kinds of music, Country & Western!

Is there an input on the back of our radios? If not, anyone know of an easy way to hide the input wire coming from the sattellite radio?
Lower fariings sound like a great place to put the receiver.

We could always take apart the radio [smiley=nervous.gif] and solder in a pigtail in the fairing for the aux input.
The other issue is whether to Hardwire the 12V supply or use the Cigar Lighter...

Actually, if hardwired, I might by another acc switch and fill that one blank on the lower dash! It bothers me that there is nothing there!

Have fun getting the fairing open enough to try to get the switch block out. I tried and tried, and ended up chipping the paint next to the switch blank. It is bolted in or something. If you press down on one side of it, it will move slightly, but I could not get it out. I was going to put in a switch for my LEDs, but ended up putting it lower in the fairing out of the way because I was soooo frustrated and pissed from chipping the paint.

Maybe it can be drilled out from the top and removed?
