'04 and '05 FLHTCUISE seat
« on: September 24, 2006, 04:26:15 PM »

Hey owners of '04 and '05 FLHTCUISEs,

I have an '06 FLHT and want to customize with a new seat. The '06 Harley parts and accessories catalog indicates I can use your '04 or '05 stock seat.

Will you please help me by answering a couple of questions?

1. Are you pleased with the stock seats or have you switrched out to another seat?

2. If you switched out, what did you switch to?

3. Are your stock seats all leather or what?

Thanks and please know how much I appreciate your help.

Wally, there have been quite a few threads on the seat, you can try a search and look thru them. But in the meantime, I'll tell you I hated the original seat. Bought a Corbin solo and have been thrilled with it. I never ride 2 up but if I did, I'd buy a Corbin and throw the original in the garbage.

Harley did not actually design the stock seat for the 05s.

In all of the threads I've read I can recall one fella that was satisfied w/ the stock seat. Most hate em including me. They look great but will seriously wound your a$$ if you spend any time on it. I'll use mine for a hundred mile trip and that's it. Went w/ the pillow look for, well, a pillow. War Dept. likes it also.

You decide for yourself.  After only a few hundred miles it was either put on the new seat or my testicles were going to convert.

JC,

The same thing is true of automobile seats - most folks who sit in a Mercedes, for instance, remark on how hard the seat is compared to the "cushy" seats on most American cars.

.....

I've always been happy with the stock seat around town but have never tried it on a trip.  However, Jon and Andy both rode ocean to ocean with a stock SEEG seat (and I think Jock had his stock seat on, too) and to my surprise, they made it home with the same seat (I was sure they'd both be buying a seat on the road).  They both still have the same seat on their bikes.....
Add me to this group of "hard azz's". I still have my stock seat, and have been to Sturgis ('04), Laconia ('05), and Myrtle Beach ('06) (BTW

The only "stock" seat that I ever liked was on my 99 Ultra (was as close to the road blimp as I've ever seen).  Since then,  the Moco has been narrowing their seats to allow shorter riders to have a chance at the bigger bikes.  While that allows for a bigger market for them,  us tall guys have to spend our $$ on trial and error seat hunting.

OK, I stand corrected. Three like the stock. I made the mistake of riding mine to our State ralley for 4 days and three months later my a$$bone is still messed up.

3 1/2.  I liked the stock 04 seat when I first got the bike, but my a$$ was so used to a Mustang w/backrest that I went and changed it out before we left for the summer trip (1,900 miles).
Since then I haven't put it back on because I'm too lazy, and I like the infinitely adjustable Mustang backrest.  If it was an easy switch, I'd probably change back and forth.  Longest one-day ride with the stock seat was 200 miles, longest one-day with Mustang was 750 miles, so stock didn't get a fair trial.  I like the looks of the stock seat better than the wide Mustang, though.  I think stock is leather, Mustang is not.

I have the stock seat on my scooter (35,000 miles later) and no problems with my a$$bone but I like firm seats. I also have a comfort stitch seat for the occasional two up riding (the stock seat on an '04 is non existant for the passenger). [smiley=pumpkin.gif]

Observation at Street Vibrations a couple weeks ago.......there are quite a few SEEG riders still riding with the stock seat.  Ya gotta admit....it's not a bad looking seat and about the best looking "stock" seat that I've ever saw. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I left the 05 stock seat on the Cherry, but on the 04' I changed it out to an FLHX Sundowner and the wife is very happy with it.   I had tried the Road King Sundowner with the V on it on the Cherry, but it dug into the bags so I got myself another FLHX seat.  I took the FLHX seat and put it on the roadking .. i keep switching from the stock 04' SEEG seat and the FLHX seat.   I think I am going to end up keeping the flhx seat.   it doesnt look as good on the road king as its padding is a bit higher in the passenger area and doesnt make the bike look so sleek, but its more comfortable.

I may try and have a gel sack put in the 04, but havent decided to try that yet.

I'm still going through seats to find one we both like. I hated the Mustang, way too hard.  I'm going to buy a comfort stitch. For two up and still like the stock with a pro pad for solo cruisin.

Unbalanced....did you have a problem attaching the passenger backrest on your cherry with the FLHX seat?.  My dealer says it won't fit as well as the stock seat making it much harder to attach the back rest every time I do so.  I won't have any problem with the tourpak because I have it set back via the George Andersen bracket.
thanks

Well I cant say no issues as I never tried the lower backrest that comes with the SEEG.  That is because I spent the money and bought the extended back rest for the passenger  (taller doesnt hit the wife in the small of the back its up a bit more).

Its in the 06 supplement and its much more comfortable for Michelle than the stock backrest.   I used the same pad but had to change out the mounting piece that goes behind the pad and the taller unit.   It was a good choice for when we ride 2 up.
