Wide tire kit
« on: October 15, 2006, 12:28:20 PM »

Is there a wide tire kit (180 or bigger) available for the FLHT? I don't like the looks of the skinny stock tire.

Thanks for the info but $4,500 to switch to a 180 or 200 rear tire is way more than what I think it's worth. Thanks anyway, appreciate it.

You can put a 160 on a 4.25" rear rim without modifications except loose the rear belt guard.
Was talking today on the phone to Donnie Smith about putting a 180 on the rear when my cell phone bit the dust. What I know before my cell phone bit the dust is, rear rim 4.25" to 4.5" and change the belt to the 3/4" or 7/8". No frame mods. Will call him back tomorrow and get the rest of imfo needed.

Thanks Hogasm, that's the kind of stuff I'm really interested in. As soon as you have more information, please post it here.

You do not have to do away with the lower belt guard when installing a 160/18 rear tire on a 05 SEEG. Put the tire/wheel on, spin the wheel and then remove the belt guard and using your Dremel cut a 1" section in the arc of the tire mark, Follow the tire curature, Cut the BACK OF THE GUARD ONLY, do not cut thru to the front side. Then reinstall the guard, no one will ever know it was modified. Even if you are laying on your back looking up at the tire with bike on a lift, your notch will look factory due to curature. I have done 2 with no problems. Otherwise the 160 is a bolt-on.
