Converting to wireless question
« on: March 01, 2020, 09:36:18 AM »

I have a 16 CVO RGU that I’d like to ditch the cord on. Is it possible to do that with HD wireless headsets or do you have to go wireless? What’s the easiest way to go? Thank You

Install the WHIM module with the additional cable required for your MY. Dealer has to turn it on using the digital technician and then you can pair it with a Sena wireless headset. You'll need the Boom Audio Sena if you want stereo. Since you mentioned ditching the cord I'm assuming you have a CB on your bike.

Here is a how to video.

I installed the WHIM system on our 2015 limited, it was easy. I did remove the fuel tank to run the diagnostic cable to the recommended location inside the right side cover.
Dealer said they just roll the cable than stuff it under the tank.
It only takes 10 minutes to  remove the tank and have access to the sheathing on the frame.
I did find a couple pinched wires under the tank and also a wire that was pulled out of a connector under the fairing.  I don't know if I have any faith in the dealer looking over the exposed harnesses for any corrections needed.
Than went to the dealer for activation.

As Joel stated the tank is easy to remove. I opted to do mine differently so that an update did not require removing a saddlebag and side cover. Some have put it under the seat as well but then the seat has to be removed to do an update.

I coiled the excess cable under the front fairing and then ran the cable along one of the major harnesses that run along the top frame rail by the neck. The cable has a sealed cap that is waterproof and if an update is required nothing has to be taken apart.

Just another option to consider.

Is there a way to tell if your bike has the whim installed. I bought a used cvo rg ultra last spring.

2016 was the last year a CVO Road Glide Ultra was produced. It did not come from the factory on that MY. Someone could have added it. Go into settings and if you see Wireless Headset then the WHIM has more than likely been installed.

i did a slightly different routing of my whim.  instead of running it down by the frame rail, under the tank, etc.  i coiled it up and left the end with the usb up by the right hand speaker inside the fairing.  it's easy to get to if you just remove the speaker grill.

this is on a roadglide.
