For me there are a number of things necessary for a good seat on the BO. First, the front of the seat has to rest on the tank because the paint job detail, i.e. the pin stripe/crushed slate/polished bare metal, is very sloppy where the original seat covers the tank and the back fender under the seat. So, even though a shorter seat would look better, it would also show the messy paint job, at least on my bike.

Then there is the exposed bolt problem. Replacing two bolts with one solves the problem by 50%. Need to get rid of the bolts somehow. I had designed a chrome piece for that (before and after attached below) to cover the bolts:

can I ask whats involved in making the chrome infill that you have for the rear of the seat

I removed my pillion seat & was not inpressed on how the standard seat looks without the pillion in place

that chrome panel you made looks great

This chrome piece would cover the bolts nicely and does make the whole seat look better but it doesn't solve problem number 3, comfort.

The comfort has to do with no backrest. With the pillion removed I need an integrated backrest both to prevent sliding back while riding and to help with long distance riding, which becomes painful after a couple of hours.

And finally the look. It has to look like it belongs on this bike.

So far the options fall short in all the areas mentioned above for me.

There are a lot of great choices for other HD models and I am hoping the same suppliers will actually design a seat that offers the right function (comfort) and has the proper form for a BO. Otherwise I will have to go with bitchin seats, c&c, etc.

At first I thought that Corbin had solved the problem.  I later found out that their Classic Solo and Pillion is a one piece seat without a solo option.  It does look good and you get the riders backrest, so maybe.

Rod,

That piece is easy enough to make using 3D printing and then have it chrome-plated.

The CVORK seat has a leather flap attached to the solo seat that covers the bolts when the pillion is removed. I'm wondering why HD didn't do the same thing for the BO.

You might want to check out the replacement bolts Harley_Charley came up with:
