Oops, how'd that get in here? ::)
It was so clean and shiney, I had to do it!!! ;D ;D ;D
Later! ;)
Hoist! 8)
I'll bet Howie payed someone to clean that non Harley Harley motored, non warrantied.................does look nice for once there Howie :2vrolijk_21:
Howie looks like you got a good jump on your rebuild. I'm doing some mods and changes to my springer and it seems its going to take for ever as I keep finding things that need attention, you know what I mean. Good luck. :2vrolijk_21:
Oops, how'd that get in here? ::)

Yeeeeeooooowwww! Cybil looks ready for a night out on the town! :shocked2: Glare RULES! :2vrolijk_21:
The Wide Glide is lookin' GREAT! Looks like some major progress already! That motor is HUGE! :o ;D
It fit without cutting anything else. We had to cut the back of the trans case and inner primary, to clearance it around the swingarm. It's really made for a Softail frame, which gives you 2 more inches behind the trans than a 4-speed swingarm frame does. But so far, that's all he had to cut. Everything else fit. That's what's great about the '85/'86 4-speed frame. It's the only 4-speed swingarm frame to take an Evo, without raising the backbone. Evo's were stock in those bikes. Looks like it's on Steroids!!! :nixweiss: :D
Now we'll see if we can retain the stock oil tank on the left and battery box on the right. I'd like to leave the stock 4-speed look, even though I lost my kicker now with the 6-speed! ;)
Hoist! 8)
Lookin good Howie! Another fun project! Good luck with it! :2vrolijk_21:
Scott
Thanks Scott. This one will be fun. No pressure on us for this build. Just build the perfect street bike! :nixweiss: :D
It's pretty much been planned out and was to start when Cybil got finished. Now it's a matter of mocking everything up and see how much stays or goes. Then I'll decide on whether to repowdercoat the frame and get a new harness. After that, we can assemble everything. I'm not expecting this to go past the end of April or so. But you know how schedules go! :o ;)
Hoist! 8)
Top of the rear cylinder looks TIGHT. Rear of the front cylinder as well. But not as close as the rear. You think the rocker box would ever come off with the motor in the frame?
Looks like a fun project Howie. That much push in that little bike it'll be a blast to ride too. Have fun with it man. Will look forward to the updates.
Oh, by the way, if the nearly 25 year old harness isn't just absolutely pristine and never been hacked on and won't need to be hacked on just get a new one. As far in to this project as you are now don't invite Gremlins.
Thanks Don. Everything's a little tight in there. You should see how much of the trans case/inner primary he removed from around the left side of the swingarm to get it to fit.
Thought about asking just that. Then realized I didn't really want to see. Might be painful to look at.
As long as there was meat enough to be removed without compromising anything it's just a step in the process to completion. Just don't let landing fixation force you to do things to reach completion that aren't good choices. It sounds like Vern wouldn't do that. But you guys keep an eye on each other to double check.
lookn good brutha,,when do you expectt her to be done?...how is the eagle runnin"?
Howie!
The FXWG is looking really great. I'd love to drive down to NSMC this weekend and see her in person. And Cybil looks like the proper lady she is. You done great. Congratulations. Really looking forward to seeing this project progress to completion, and seeing the Bobber take form. Best Blessings to ya.
Henry
Thanks a lot Henry. It's an interesting project for sure. And less streesful than the torture I went thru to get a new motor in Cybil! ;)
I have a rig (Hoist ;D) on 53rd St & 7th Ave at Midnight on Fri night. We're permitted until noon on Sat. I'm not sure what condition I'll be in when I get home Sat. afternoon. But if I can stay up after pulling the all-nighter, I'll be happy to bring you out there again. As a matter of fact, if I don't get Cybil there before Fri, you might be my ticket to a return ride home after dropping her off on Sat instead. Let me know, and I'll see if I can make it happen on my end! :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
Let me know where to be and when to be there on Saturday, and I'll make it happen. I do need to be back up here no later than 4pm Saturday.
Looking good Howie!
Now this looks like a fun project! Both the build and the ride! Keep us posted but she's looking good so far. I'm anxious to see what's in store!
Holy crap! Vern's going to town on this bike this like gangbusters! The drivetrain is completely installed. He was able to utilize the stock oil tank and battery box. He has to setup a spot for the new Accel coil though. The stock mounting location won't work. No biggie. I just ordered the PM Contour Hand and Foot Controls, PM 6 piston differential bore front and 4 piston rear calipers, Russell Floating rotors, new 51 tooth rear sprocket and chain, all new SS lines and cables, new Lucas style Tailight/licence plate bracket, and new HID headlight assembly! This bike might be completed within the next 2 weeks now! :o :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
night time bar hoping
Yeah, but when you're lit who cares if your headlight is :nixweiss: ?
Are you kidding! It's even more important when you're too lit to see, to be well lit!!! :D :D :D :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

Looking good Howie
Got me in the garage looking at the 84 Low Glide. Hmmmm.
JW
great news brutha, glad to hear it,evo's & pans forever!!..., my pc is acting up too, how did that get in there!! ;D
FXWG is lookin a little different to when I last saw her parked up in a NY street awaiting restitution Howie! She sure looks like she is going to be a lot of fun. Good luck with the rest of the build.
Nige
yeah, but my shovel is not as reliable as the pan ,i will post a pic of it tomorrow, it was willed to me by my best bro, been stiiting in the corner of the garage for 2 years , just broke it out last week to hook up the dyna gnition to fire the duel plugs,he is still around ,just cant ride much anymore..ride on
Don't get too excited Jeff. My '85 came with an Evo. The '84 frame came with a shovel and an Evo won't fit in it without raising the backbone. Just wanted to make sure you know the difference between the earlier 4-speed swingarm frames, and '85/'86 4-speed swingarm frames. ;)
Hoist! 8)
Look at the size of that motor, you are going to need a set of wheelie bars to keep the front end on the ground. :jalapeno:
Nice project, looking forward to the end results. :2vrolijk_21:
Howie, the 84 FXRS Low Glide was one of the first models to come out with an Evo. And a five speed to boot. She was my first Harley. Lot of riders back then gave me heck for buying a Jap Harley with an aluminum engine. Wasn't a real Harley. I still ride with some of those same guys. Guess what their motors are made of nowadays. Times change.
JW
Last one for now. More updates next wekk, I hope! Thanks for checking it out. :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
any worys about exhaust fitment?
Howie,
Looking good. Looks like a lot of progress in a short amount of time. Can't wait to see the finished project. It's easy to see that this bike is definately purpose built and that purpose is FUN!
Craig
Howie, you going to do anything different with that ugly Revtech air cleaner cover? Maybe a nice S&S or something :nixweiss: ?
And how about some nice copper or stainless oil lines to replace those fugly hoses?? :nixweiss: and how about...
(Lot's more "help" available upon request!!) :orange: :mango: :bananarock: :carrot: :jalapeno: :cucumber: :pineapple: :pepper: :2vrolijk_21:
I'm weighing whether to swap it for Super G carb or just getting an S&S backplate for it for the S&S Teardrop cover. The motor came with the carb, and they have no use for it. So I'd have to buy a complete S&S carb setup to change it. How are those Mikunis? I think it's an HSR 45. Trying to decide on that one.
I also thought about that Big Air Carb from PSI Power. Any reports from anyone that's used that carb yet?
http://www.psipowerinc.com/bigAirCarbs.htm
We're not up to that yet, but help away Scott! ::) ;D
Hoist! 8)
I put a Mikuni HSR 45 on this bike back in the late 90's - they had just come out. I absolutely loved it. The bike ran strong - started easily - (didn't need to use the choke to start). I really liked the carb. I have had fuel injection on every bike since - but if I was doing another build, I'd need a pretty good reason to use something but a Mikuni...
I also thought about that Big Air Carb from PSI Power. Any reports from anyone that's used that carb yet?
Thanks Scott. That'll be my cheapest option too. All I'll need is the S&S backplate and hardware. I already have the K&N filter and Teardrop cover for it. I think I'll start off with it that way. I can always change it later if I wanted to. ;) :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
I've had experience like Scott has with the Mikini 45 Howie. It was a very well behaved carb that just ran good on the bike I had one on.
A turbo works much better :2vrolijk_21:
HeHe!!! TODAY'S UPDATE:
Well hopefully this project finally is getting back underway, and I might be even getting her back in the next month or two! They brought the bike up from the basement of the shop and started continuing work again. Mostly all the parts are now there, so it's a matter of spending the time here and there to put her back together. These are friends, and I don't bother asking them to put me first. So it helps them out to keep doing daily business, instead of having to devote dedicated manpower to my projects. I'm OK with that. It's not like I can't still ride! ;)
So the new PM Contour Forward Controls are on. Need a new shifter linkage for it. The front end's about to come off to be replaced with the new chrome AK-40 front end (PM Contour Controls, W-1s 1-1/4"10" Apes w/ 3"H 1-1/4" W-1s Risers, Billet Mirrors, Thunderstar wheel w/ ME Lasertec tire, and Braided SS Cables and Lines). Saw the new rear Thunderstar wheel on the mounting machine, so it looks like the rear will get done soon too (19" Thunderstar wheel w/ ME Lasertec tire, Russell Floating Rotor, chrome Sprocket, PM 4-piston DB caliper, and bitubos).
I guess we'll have some final details to work out at the end, like rewiring some things, and what finishing touches it needs. But I intend to have this bike come out complete, and need nothing when I'm thru. You can do that when you start from scratch! And don't worry, you'll get your pics soon enough! ;D ;D ;)
Hoist! 8)
TODAY'S UPDATE:
Well, the FXWG project IS well underway again. I understand the new Traxxion front end is on now. I'll be heading over in the morning to get new handlebars fitted on Joy. I'm dropping the Pro Street off to have the forward controls I just removed from Joy, installed on the Pro Street. I'll try to get some current progress pics of the FXWG too. I think they're trying to finish it up within the next few weeks! I hope she rides as good as she looks! :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
I just saw your pictures for the first time. Wow!! Great looking bike. My first H/D was an 81 wide glide. Didn't quite look that hot
Need a good name for her now! Suggestions? ;)
 :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:
Might as well keep giving them all girl's names. Going to be sleeping in the garage before long anyway :P .
Sounds like she is going to be real schweet Howie. Can't wait for them thar pics.
Nige
Holy crap! She's well underway! And looks unbelievable!!! Even better than I pictured her when I was conceptualizing her in my mind, and then ordered the corresponding envisioned parts to build it that way! The new chrome front end's on (w/new neck bearings), along with the handlebars, PM Contour controls w/Renthal grips, Thunderstar wheel and PM caliper. The new Thunderstar rear wheel with matching chrome sprocket and floating rotor, PM caliper, and bitubos are on. All the PM Contour foot controls are mounted. It's getting close now. We went over the items needed to finish. New electronic speedo/tach, tail light/licence plate assembly, S&S A/C assembly of course (even though I'll be running a Mikuni!), and either FatCat or Thunderheader for exhaust! They have to work on wiring everything as necessary now. If they stay at it, she should be ready by Thanksgiving! Can't wait now!!! :2vrolijk_21:
All this on a HD 4-speed swing arm solid-mount Evo frame, one of the best frames there is IMO. But that's the only HD part that'll be left on this baby! Need a good name for her now! Suggestions? ;)
Took the Pro Street there, so no pics for now. Ain't the suspense killing youze?! ;D ;D ;D

I knew the Christine you had in mind......................but I still think Christine Rage is quite fitting. She's a head banging Rock n Roller.

Well, finding the lil things now. Filled her with oil this week and found there's a small leak in the old oil tank. Of course HD doesn't make 4-speed oil tanks any longer. Didn't bother searching around for one either. We ordered a new chrome replacement from Tedd's V-Twin. Now waiting for that to show before attempting startup! It's 29deg here, so no hurry. But I'm anxious to see her run! Should be soon though! ;)
Hoist! 8)
No way to repair the existing tank?
Howie,
that is one suhweet Servi-Car!! :2vrolijk_21: Can't wait to see how the WG turns out. thanks for sharing the pics.
Yo Howie,
You still looking for a name for the resurrected EVO/CVO? How about Hillary in honor of your beloved Senator from the great state of New York? Besides, she clearly needs to be modified, ridden hard, and then put away wet or something don't you think? :nixweiss: :huepfenjump3:
I thought of you when I saw that SC, Tim! Thought you'd like it! That'd go great in your collection. :2vrolijk_21:
That one's not for sale though. ??? :(
Hoist! 8)
howie, the 85 is looking good , and another thanks for the pics of the 52, :2vrolijk_21:. axil
WooHoo!!! Getting closer! The tanks are back on. The new Autometer speedo/tach is on, wired, and working. Everything is rewired. A few more finishing touches and hopefully we'll be firing her up on Wed!!! If all's good to go, hopefully I'll be bringing her home this weekend!!! Hopefully!!! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
Hoist! 8)
Hey, Howie! How many of your bikes actually run, LOL?! ::) :P :huepfenlol2: Well, I guess it'll be "one more" soon enough!!! :drink: Bike looks great, man! :2vrolijk_21:
I didn't really GAS, I was just using someone else's line as a joke! Who cares, anyway! They can be as fun to work on as to ride!
I do love the looks of the WG, though! That'll be a neat one to have on the streets again! :2vrolijk_21:
Congrats Howie. Looks Great!
Bike looks great Hoist! Thanks for the photos - you know I love 'em! Gotta be exciting to see such a major project come together like that. Looking forward to ride reports!
Thanks for the pics Howie. This has been a fun project to follow. Have really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the end of it and hearing of the beastie hitting the street :2vrolijk_21: .
Thanks Don! You and me both! Now you'll have a choice of a few cool rides when ya come visit us! :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
WooHoo!!! WooHoo!!! WooHoo!!! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:Congrats Man, I know you're happy right now. (even with the white chit) ;D har! spyder
Just got a call from the shop! It was my bike calling me! I answered the phone to my new 110 Evo running!!! It sounded great from what I could hear over a cell phone! Vern used to call my 4-speed "Rainmaker", cause of all the times I went to see him and it started raining! Now he's calling it "Snowmaker"! New bike, new name, new generation for the ole 4-speed!!! ;D
It was a fun call, and she's pretty much done now! Too bad she'll sit awhile til we get rid of all this white chit falling here! Can't wait to get my "real bike" back!!! ;) :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
Thanks spyd! :2vrolijk_21:
And you know I'll be going to visit her tomorrow, white chit and all!!! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
Hoist! 8)
I forgot. What carb is on this one? Just wondering how easy she'll be to dial in.
Mikuni HSR 45. I used an adapter for, and used the S&S backplate and A/C Teardrop A/C assembly. He's throwing it on the dyno to calibrate the new Autometer speedo/tach, and will set the carb up while it's on. It won't need much fiddling around with. It sounded pretty damn good already! ;)
Hoist! 8)
That's great Howie. Hearing one fire off the first time is always a big deal. No matter how many times you've done it. Keeping my fingers crossed for quick storm passage and cleared roads to try it out a bit.
Thanks Don! Let's hope it clears quick. Supposed to warm up again next week. I hope so! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
Hoist! 8)
Howie, I dig that S&S A/C with the slots in the front of it...way cool...good luck with the weather...not to rub it in or anything...but :orange: what the hell...82 an sunny an dry here today and the rest of the weekend....cold spell coming monday though....they say it may only get to 73 or so....but ya got to be tough to live here in the sunshine state....best of luck with the scoot....really enjoyed the pics too :orange:
Great news, Howie! Thanks for sharing. I know you'll be happy to get "The Four Speed," "Rainmaker," "Snowmaker" back home where she belongs. It's always awesome when a plan finally produces a result. I remember not many months ago seeing all her new parts still boxed up downstairs at NSMC. You must be extremely excited. Can't wait for your report on how she rides now. Best Blessings to ya! :2vrolijk_21:
Thank you Henry! You know better than most how excited I am getting my REAL bike back! I love that ole 4-speed, and hope to love it even more now that she's reborn CVO Style!!! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
I know you will. Heck man, she was beautiful before all this work. That which you've done now has completed the impossible: making beautiful and fun.......the best it can be. Congratulations. I wish you many years of happiness with the 4-speed.
Can I PLEASE take her for a spin next time I visit........PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE?
Of course, you know it bro! :2vrolijk_21:
Hoist! 8)
Hey, look at it this way......the cool temps will be good for the break-in. ;D har! spyder
And I'll be breaking in 2 in the cold! Wanted to get the WG broken in before Cybil gets home!!! Them heated clothes can't get here soon enough!!! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Wait a minute now! We're talkin about the 4-speed (6-speed) here! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:
Hoist! 8)
Doesn't matter. Can you even begin to imagine either of us say, oh, maybe 25 years ago. We'd be so laughing our asses off at any old geezer we saw worried about things like heated clothes or amps or fancy braided lines :huepfenlol2: .
HeHe!!! I did'nt even know they had such things! Wait a minute, they didn't!!! :nixweiss: ;D ;)
Hoist! 8)
Some of it they probably did. But you would've needed a small trailer to pull the amp and a spare car battery backpack to run the heated clothes for an hour.
Just can't help but be amused sometimes at some of thechitlevels of detail we go to with the bikes anymore compared to how grateful we used to be just to have something that ran well enough to get you from here to there without destroying your kidneys in the process.
Rigid (suspension) has given way to firm (Corbin saddles). Shock has gone from potholes to Bitubos. Saddle has gone from old leather clad wood and foam to a thousand dollars of stitching, backrests and heating elements. Occasionally riding beside a car long enough to ask the kid driving if he knows the weather ahead has gone to HawgWired digital amps powering the output from multmode stereos and component speakers with disc players and weatherbands. Wheel bearings that last forever. Fancy "recurve" windshields. So much we would have just laughed at when staying up late again trying to make one bike out of two once again because you just have to get back on the road. And with all that; tires still don't last for crap :nixweiss: .
And HD motors are still leaking!!! ;D ;D ;D
Hoist! 8)
And with all that; tires still don't last for crap :nixweiss: .Yeah, but they sure do 'stick' better. I have to remind myself of all of which you speak on a regular basis, as it's just too easy to get caught up in the advances and piss & moan over problems that aren't even relevant compared to what we use to have (to deal with). The up-side was that even I could work on and usually fix the old simple scooters. ;D har! :drink: spyder

Can't rotate anymore either...
Back in the day they did bucko...thats is why the oldster has a rear stand on it and the fender has a hinge that lets the fender flod up to help in removal. After this weekends ride, I don't think I will ever wear out the skins on it... ;D. Tires were the same size front and rear for quite a few years.. :drink:That answers my question..... Thanks.
HeHe!!! WTH ever rotated bike tires? :nixweiss:

Hoist - what an outstanding build! Bike looks just awesome, cool to see a chain drive! There's enough chrome there to qualify for honorary CVO status although you may want to consider mocking up a HVO logo. Sure you can't wait to get on and break the law.
Looks great Howie. It's great when you see these ol scooters still thumping along! Still working on the 84 with/for my son.
Hey Hoist, how will it look different than what's on the bike now? Are you just needing new foam? :-\ spyder
So you need a completely new designed seat? I seem to remember someone speaking of a custom seat outfit in your general area.....maybe someone remembers where the post was? :-\ spyder
Not new designed, just refoamed and recovered, but retain the exact stock look. I was looking for a new custom designed seat to be made for the Pro Street. ;):oops:Forgot about your multi-tasking (too many builds going on). har! spyder

Now, she must be fast as well as the speedo shows 60MPH sitting on the stand @3500RPM! :nixweiss: Get some read flames on the new seat to bring out the red or maybe yellow flames to match the coil and plug wires ?

Hope so! I want to see it and Joy lined up for a family pic!

Hope the weather holds out for you Hoist. Would love to hear your feedback on the new ride in motion!

Congrats on the build and getting her home. Hope the weather cooperates so you can get out and get some miles in.
Pete
Thanks Pete! Appreciate that! You know I'll be watching that weather real close and getting time on her whenever I can. I'd love to have her broken in before I get Cybil back. Tough breaking in 2 bikes at 1 time! ;)
Hoist! 8)
You are far more religious about adhering to a break in procedure with a modern engine than I am. Even with the little I do though it's an annoying and slightly frustrating period. Two at once would suck. Yet another reason I'm glad the SERG only got its cam case opened and heads lifted off. Nothing to break in :2vrolijk_21: .
Well it did mb! Bike's home now!!! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:
It rides unbelievable now. You'd never know you're riding a solid mount! You think Traxxion's great on an FLH, try it on a street bike!!! Holy crap! AWESOME!!! :2vrolijk_21:
Great news Howie. Here's to hoping 09 starts right for you and all your scoots!
JW

Howieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Very sweet pics indeed Howie. You even have me grinning like a Cheshire cat at the thought of how you must feel with your babies tucked up in your garage. All you need now is for Cybil to make her return and you will be complete (hope your garage can fit them all in).
Happy New Year to you and Binx............hope youze have a great one.
Nige & Jan
Hoist, went to the traxion site and it appeared they did not have a front end for wide glides. Did they do a custom setup for yours? I see you are a big fan of their products and I can understand the big advantage on a touring bike but would be interested in your feedback on the benefits on a wide glide. Is it worth the $$$'s?
When you say better, do you mean safer, better performance in turns, stopping?? How do you notice the difference and what do you experience versus stock front end?
The ride and the dive. I seem to glide over the same highway cross ties I used to leave my seat on with the stock front end. And the dive during handling is all but gone. Very controlllable now. It's also more plush at the same time. This is in conjunction with the bitubo's in the rear. I didn't try it with just the AK-20's in the front. But the AK-20/bitubo combo is the best I've ever felt on any HD! :2vrolijk_21:

4 speed looks great, Howie. You know those post build loose ends. You and Vern will find 'em and fix 'em. Congrats! Soon you'll have a full barn......in the city! :huepfenlol2:
Looks great Howie, thanks for the pics... :2vrolijk_21:
Looks S-W-E-E-T Howie, glad you got her home. Now get her out in the wind and get some miles on her! :2vrolijk_21:

I like it too. Hard to tell from this which one is more CVO material.
Looks great on the bike Howie. Hope it rides as well as it looks. :2vrolijk_21:
Hey Howie...Is that seat the one ya said ya bought on eBay back last year sometimes or a different seat? MAN! It really looks good if that's the same one? Why did ya use "Sargent's" instead of "Mean City Cycles"? Just curious cause I'm thinkin of sending my mustang in for gel pads and maybe lowering an inch or so....Again Man...GREAT JOB they did! :2vrolijk_21:

Great job on the seat, Howie. 8) I like the little sissy bar pad also. Glad they worked the HD emblem back into the re-do. Neat! :2vrolijk_21: spyder
Seat looks great Hoist! That bike's a winner!
Looks like they did a great job Howie. So much better to see a bike like this with the original equipment - IMHO.
Good job.

WooHoo!!! Got up to 50 today and had the WG out for about 60 miles this afternoon!!! The bike rides better than any new HD street bike I've ridden since the FXR days. You'd never catch me on a Dyna, when I can have one of these! And I never was a Softail dude, so that's never an option for me. The 4-speed Evo frame is one of the best platforms ever to leave HD!!! 110" Evo in there now, and smooth as glass! WTH needs counterbalancers? It was really great riding around and breaking her in this afternoon. Nuthin like a good ride to clear your head out! Highly needed these days!!! ;) :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:WooHoo is right. Nuttin like a good blast on a good running scooter to clear out the winter blahs. ;D spyder

Hmm, thanks I think, but not quite sure what you're saying here Nige! :confused5:
This bike is done up with superior aftermarket stuff to the original equipment, and basically only the frame and tin (not even the tanks though) is all that's left of the original equipment. But it's done the way I wanted it done, and love the way it came out and rides now!!! :2vrolijk_21:
