Title: 2013 FLHTCUSE8 Bars and GPS Mount
Post by: CVOSO on September 06, 2017, 08:38:48 AM
Well, I finally took the time to get the bars on and make a mount to relocate the GPS to allow clearance to maintain "full lock" steering and no tank contact.  After much research on this site and the web, I installed LA Choppers 10" Twin Peaks Bagger Bars.  I used the stock clutch and brake lines; re-routed for adequate "slack".  Pulling the wiring through the bars was the worst part - painstakingly time consuming to ensure I didn't mess them up.  After the bars were on and everything ops checked, I began the GPS mount.  I had thought about a RAM Mount, but was unsure of the stability, so I fab'd one from billet aluminum.  After a test fit... some etching... etching primer... and paint... it was time to put it all together and go riding!  The end result ... I've since checked out a RAM mount in use on another bike -- they work well!   Since the lower mount hardware is AMP specs I can add a mount later for a cell phone or other device...  8)

... and I had fun doing it !   Well,  except for pulling the wiring  >:(

Great info CVOSO! I have the same bike and been shopping for bars. The 10" seem to be the way to go for not having to buy wire ext's and longer braided lines....

Ultra... I chose the 10" to keep my hands behind the fairing and the 10" bars placed my hands right where I wanted them to be.  I have heard of a few lucky individuals having the length in the stock lines to install 12" bars, but most have said it is best to replace with longer lines when going to 12".

Great looking bike you have!   - Bear

I installed 12" Khrome Werks Bobber Apes and didn't have to extend clutch or break lines.
Just had to do minor reroute and didn't have to relocate the GPS either.

So uh when are you gonna mass produce that rig up you have there for the GPS? Lol.  I had to leave my bars rolled back some because of the GPS.

Yes....That's exactly what I want to do. Still keep my hands at the top of the fairing level...If I lean the bars back some will that alleviate me having to make or purchase a relocation bracket for the GPS?

Devious -- I was thinking about getting requests.  I have been looking for more billet stock - I used a chunk of what I had sitting around... are you looking for the exact same setup?  Can be powder coated, but I simply etched mine, used an etching primer (for aluminum) and painted it (3 coats).

Ultra13 -- Yes you can get clearance by locating the bars farther back toward the rider --- CAUTION: ENSURE YOU CHECK TANK CLEARANCE AT FULL LOCK (left and right)

Where you able to use the existing wiring for the GPS mount? What would it cost to have one made? Installed 12 inch Yaffe Monkey bars and can not see the GPS any more.

Yes.  The original wiring for the GPS mount was used.  There is, or at least was on mine, plenty of slack for this mod.  I drilled holes to match the "AMP" specs and mounted directly to the original mount and it allowed me to use the original GPS bracket and wiring.  And as previously mentioned allows the addition/use of other "AMP" mounted products either below or behind my GPS. (Although behind might be a bit tight to the windshield.) -- Bear
