2012 FLTRXSE floorboards??
« on: February 17, 2013, 10:40:34 AM »

If the controls and grips on the 2013`s are called the streamliner series, what were the controls and grips called on the 2012CVO? I am thinking about selling the shifter pegs, brake pedal, rear pegs and mounts and the floorboards and pans off my Skunk. I want to go all black with them.

The series on your Skunk is the Rumble collection.  Passenger inserts are available but are not in the P&A book.

What are you putting on in their place?

If anyone else is looking at adding the Rumble passenger boards, be careful of the quality.

I have ordered four sets and so far only one board is usable.  >:(  The process that forms the posts on the back of the metal top has either been missed or done so lightly that you can lift the chrome insert right out of the rubber base. As you can see from the pic the posts are straight. On the good one the ends are mushroomed over to hold the trim in place.

The dealer has contacted the P&A people enough that they know of the problem but who knows how many are out there. If you have added a set and want to check with the inserts installed, go to the back edge and place your thumb on the rubber and gently lift the chrome tips on the end. If the insert rises out of the rubber you will know.

FYI!

Are they able to be put back together?  I wanted to take mine apart to have the chrome coated, but wasn't sure if they'd be fixable if I did so.  What are your thoughts?

If they are manufactured correctly, the studs are formed (mushroomed) over and would have to be somehow cut to get the chrome inserts off. I am not sure what method would be used to refasten them. If you pull them out of your bases you might ind that they are not fully formed and then you would have more to work with. Possibly a retaining washer would work.

**Update 3/27/13 - after four months I finally got a set that were made correctly.  If you have a box with a date prior to 3/18/13, check them out before installing.  It would be a pain to have the chrome insert fall out while they are folded up.
