Hey guys. Just bought my first CVO and my first twin cooled. Have a question on the radiator fans. Only have 130 miles so not use to the set up yet.
When I shut off the bike it seems that only one fan (the left one) runs for a bit. Is that right or should both fans run on shut down. Was thinking maybe only one to save power. Any ideas anyone?

Both fans run on mine, as far as I know. They sometimes run a few seconds then shut down when the bike is stopped & it's hot.

The fans turn on in stages based on coolant temperatures. I can't remember what the exact temperatures are, but I imagine a shop manual would give you those figures. I assume the same thing applies when the fans operate after shut down of the engine, one or both operate depending on coolant temps.

You can test them to verify that they run. Turn the ignition on with the engine run/stop switch in the run position. Open the throttle about 1/3 to 1/2 and hold it for several seconds. Both fans and the coolant pump should run. Turn the ignition off and the system will revert to its normal operation.

In addition to the test recommended by ultrafxr above, here's the criteria for each fan's operation which is separately set in the tune map but should be identical for left and right fans from the factory:
Fan enabled @ 194 degrees
Fan disabled @ 181 degrees
AND
Fan Off above 14mph
Fan On below 10mph
Once ignition is OFF, one or both fans will run for 3 mins if the coolant temp is above 190 degrees.

what year bike and has it been tuned ?? speaking for mine 16 RGU... when it had the stock tune in it, both fans kicked on after turning it off, if it was at temp... after I put a tune in it ( with a TTS tuner and a tune from fullsac) only one fan (left) runs unless temps are above the set point for the second fan (right). very rarely dose the right side fan come on. FYI every so often i check the fan(s) as stated above, just to be sure, the left one is working if needed

Thanks for the tips. Did the throttle check thing, both fans turn on. Sitting at a stop light I checked them, both on. When I came home and shut down, only the left one started running so I guess that's how it is suppose to work. Thanks again.

If the fans cut off at 14 mph / will the water pump also cut off when above 14 mph or will it stay on all the time motor is running ?? Thanks

The coolant pump does not have a speed cut off. I believe it does have a coolant temperature activation.

The water pump should run all the time.

Even when the engine is cold? Or does it start circulating after the engine comes up to normal operating temps?
