2015 110" blow by or sumping
« on: January 06, 2020, 09:28:03 AM »

While doing the 10,000 mile service I found the drained amount of engine oil 1 qt low. considering some still in oil filter and amount lost when removing filter, also found oil that ran out of air filter when removed (nothing dripping from filter before removal) previous filter service a few thousand miles ago there was no oil present inside filter. Breathers in heads appear to be functioning based on oil not pouring out of drain hole until fill plug is opened. Blow by or sumping? Or other problems to come?

How many miles since the last oil change? How about the oil cooler? 1 qt. doesn't sound unreasonable considering mileage, and oil cooler. Pull the sump plug and see what comes out. :nixweiss:

5000 miles on the oil change. Only 2000 or so since the air filer was serviced. Not to concerned about the amount of oil, just the location it’s going, having not had oil in the air filter previously.

Just find it odd that the bike has had 4 oil changes and this has never shown up until now. Have always ran the full 4qts of oil.

If you can highway speed for over an hour oil will hit the air cleaner. Do a long day on highway and oil can be all over right side of bike. Air cleaner won't hold it all and it can drip, blowing in pipes and engine. Always run 3.5 qts if a long trip is coming up. 3.75 max and only after double checking 3.5 for a short ride.

to me sounds like too much oil, if your putting 4.0 qt.s in.  mine, a 16, is at the full mark with 3.5 qt.s after oil and filter change  :nixweiss:
