crankcase seal failure
« on: June 19, 2018, 07:02:52 PM »

Has anyone had problems with they're crankcase seal going bad and dumping your engine oil into the primary. they replaced mine twice. This time I told them to check the crank runout or left side case. I dont want it back until they find the problem.

That's one of those damn seals that the tech can screw up installing.  I know I screwed up a couple till I machined up a better seal driver .....haven't done a m8 yet tho... Good luck. They'll get it right.

Nope not that simple turns out the factory didn't machine the block right. So two weeks have gone by and no word they'll get a new one to the dealer. Thinking of getting ahold of washington state and starting lemon law procedure. I pissed no bike to ride for probably a month. I'm done with Harley.

. Hate to hear that....sucks.  Get a clear picture of it if you can.....might get them moving a little quicker too if they don't know why you want a picture of it...  Hope you get back up and in the road .

A seal is a seal. If Crank run-out is within the lower limits you should get thousands of miles. My S&S V111 motor had the main shaft seal repplaced at 90,000 miles. I replaced it myself no leaks!

Does anyone have a copy of the service note for this?  My 2018 FLHTKSE is going in for 5k service next Friday.
