I guess I bragged too much on 'Ol Maudie's stamina, in the presence of merciless abuse. :( I think she has a broken valve-spring, or two. At any rate, will be transporting the 'Ol Girl to Tilley's, post haste. ;) Later--HUBBARD
Cool
I met with Don on Saturday and told him you needed to spend some more money there.
He said he would call.
All was well till Nancy sat on the silver 09 SERG in his showroom and decided she wanted it.
She was beating him down till I got her out of there and told her not no, but hell no, no more 110's.
Well, plus it had a lot of miles.
Good luck with Maude!
At Tilleys, Hubbard cash will fix anything!
If you wait till it's not raining I may meet you there.
SBB
:2vrolijk_21:
Had her loaded up and headed to Tilley's yesterday, but I-77 was shut down at the second Tunnel due to an accident. Traffic was detoured across Big Walker on the Old Road, and then the shift sensor in my Denali took a crap. I've run the hell out of it, too. Nothing lasts forever. Soon as Neal sets the appointment, I'll let you know. :2vrolijk_21: Later--HUBBARD
Hey Pal'
Hate to hear you had trouble with the tunnel, I figured she was already resting comfortably in ICU at Tilley's. I am sure that Neal will get her right as rain soon.

Shrader
PS Randy and I were contemplating putting a post on here regarding Maudie's illness but we didn't have the heart.

Carl,
Sorry to hear about Maudie, let us know what happened when Neal digs into it.
She should be like a young girl when you get her back, hope you can keep up with her.
Well said...you are quite the ladies man for sure!

I am confident that Neal will perform his magic and she will be better than new in no time waiting to be rode yet again...
Awe money can fix most thing. Good luck getting her back on the road.
Knowing you Carl I'm sure that your going to keep Maudie stock like she always been, this is a HBRR requirement right. :nixweiss:
Please advise. ;D

Tilley Listened to the Ol' Girl for about 3-5 seconds, and told Neal to pull the push-rod covers. Roller on Lifter, (Exhaust), failed on Front Cylinder. Cam, Oil Pump, for sure. Could be worse. Know more Monday. :( Later--HUBBARD
Carl,
Don't know lifter manufacturer, but assume Feuling if supplied by Zippers. If so have heard of such failures with Fueling lifters (roller failure). I had same lifter collapse on my motor (no damage, just noisy). Changed over to S&S, no problems since (in over 40K miles).
Don't forget there have been two different Feuling lifters. They offer they're standard lifter and a "race" or supposedly higher performance lifter. Have seen the "race" lifters fail in two engines but haven't personally seen their standard lifters fail.
Two are only data points and not trends of course. But worth paying attention to when comparing what failed in Carl's motor.
I still think he needs to find Mom from Mom's Roadhouse and go on a date :-*
B B
Thanks, Twolane. I'm pretty sure I had the H-P lifters. I'll check it out tomorrow with Neal. Later--HUBBARD
Carl, even if it turns out all the problems have been contained up top of the head have you decided yet if you'll just fix it? Or will this be an excuse to goose the old girl up even a bit more than she was to begin with?Don't egg him on. He's got cash he don't know what to do with these days, w/o a race team to support. Hey Carl,
I don't see any talk about upgrades to comfort, cosmetics etc. Lots of nice things have been done by the MoCo since ole Maudie was birthed (not everything they do sucks) Just wondering if you're doing anything beyond the mechanicals to the old gal ?

Your in business for the goverment.
At the end you get a little part of what's left.
I hope it's enough to get Maude and the Denali back on the road.
Good luck.

Don,
ALL BS aside, the only time Ol' Maudie has been dusted was by UnBalanced, and I was 2-up, and he was Solo, so we will probably have to do that again in Daytona, this coming Spring. That said, I'll probably put her back as a 120, with the most recent updates. Like lifters, valve springs, etc. :2vrolijk_21: Later--HUBBARD
Pot stirring i can do that.

Hell, Hub I gotta think they're all DELUSIONAL .... I clearly remember getting astride "Ol Maudie" a couple of years back and releasing that monster clutch lever for a little high speed test run at my FL house. The old gal's got soul. Put the same weight on any of the wannabe's (even a plastic toy bike Vrod) and watch 'em get smaller in the rear view mirror. Come to think of it, I may come to Daytona just to be helpful and give the followers directions so they can locate "Maudie" from where they last saw her taillight. Just sayin' ...... without stirring any chit you know ..... ::) ::) ::)

Really! Probably the first time in the 7 or so year history of the site that the term "numnuts" has been used and I thought it was d@mn funny! Hell, who knows, that may be the first time in 7 years that term's been used anywhere! LOL
Didn't go back and look. Someone was talking to Harry.....?
Ok, just did a search. Numnuts was out there a half dozen times before. Best one was Carl talking to Chip :huepfenlol2: .
Personally I think if Harry was wanting to change his username to Numnuts and the mods wouldn't let him we should all follow Carl's lead and just use it for him anyway. It is Christmas time. So we should be kind and help a brother out.

I feel the same way Hub, so I went with the D&D Fat Cat with ghost pipe. But you probably already considered that. :nixweiss:
Guess I better make an attempt to defuse this chit before terds start flying in cyber-space. Numnuts is a term I use in jest, and only voiced at those to whom I consider friends, and in my opinion, would not take offense to it. As a matter of fact, the first time I heard the term, my Dad's Brother tagged me with it. So, in all fairness, HUBBARD is the original numnuts. Later in life, "numnuts", would have been a badge of honor, compared to what I have been called, and deservedly so. As far as Mr. Chithead is concerned, OTIS and I reviewed the HBRR Charter, and at this time he is not a member. If any of my smarta$$ed remarks offended Unbalanced, or SBB, I apologize. If Unbalanced and SBB offended each other, as a result of my Post, that is not my affair. That said, permit me, as BB said, to get back to the basics of this Post. Carl, I'm sure you'd discussed this somewhere here. But between teasing Harry and watching you pick on Chip and all the rest that's gone on I got distracted. But was never disinterested. So now I'm curious again.
What ended up being the changes? How much more Maudie will there be than she was before? And when does spring happen in West BG Virginia so you can wring her out a bit?
Won't be able to make it to Daytona this year, but I think a video of the showdown race would go a long way. I got $50 on Hubbard. P.S. A quarter mile is fine with me.

Thank you so much for this post. I have resisted all attempts by fellow site members and local friends alike to install a 2 into 1 system on LD. Inasmuch as Maudie is (argueably) one of the fastest non water buffalo H-D's on this site, and you are coming out in strong support of true dual exhaust puts a smile on my face. They can call me old school all they want as long as they're not looking at my license plate.

That's good news Carl. Congrats on the progress man. Great to hear she's alive again. Getting some break in time on a dyno wheel done has to make waiting on the WV spring a little easier too. Can't wait to hear how she feels to you when you get to take the old girl back out.
It will be more fulfilling than the last ride, I'm sure. With the roller on the lifter lockin' up from time to time before it imploded, had to limit the Cam from doin' its job. Neal said the exhaust valve in the rear Head was a little loose, too. Hell, who knows, she may surpass even my expectations. We will definitely find out what she's packin', real soon. 8) Later--HUBBARD

Just returned from Tilley's, and Neil is waiting on a bearing, which should be there Tuesday. Everything else is in place, and waiting to be buttoned up, starting Tuesday morning. I thought about a D&D Fat-Cat, but can't seem to convince myself. A Dresser just don't look right to me without duals. Had to get a different style Oil Cooler, as the one I had has been discontinued. Ya'll have a Merry Christmas, and a Prosperous New Year! Later--HUBBARD
Just talked to Neal, and Ol' Maudie fired on the first bump, like she was riden yesterday. Gotta' put a new set of RINEHART's on the Ol' Girl.
Don, gotta dont mean he did though.

Hub how did you make out on the oil cooler ?
What are you, a fu*king Lawyer now? :nixweiss: "Gotta" is my way of sayin' "going to"............"have to"............"will"............"done deal." The Header Pipes are at Jet-Hot, now. And yes, Tilley's called the number you gave me and located the same part# Oil Cooler. Thanks. I would be beside myself if she didn't look the same. You better get that ol' wore out 124 tuned-up and ready. Tilley paid "special attention", to my Heads and TB. I may just bust your big a$$. ;) Later--HUBBARD
Does that mean Don didnt pay special attention last time ? :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Look at his signature .... :) :huepfenlol2:
Harry, I did just that. Quick and fast are two different things altogether. So I'm left to wonder if ole Maudie is fast or just halfast ?
B B
Carl,
A person who requested to remain anonymous that had been up at Tilleys called and they stated that you have gone with a bigger crank and bore pistons than what you had in the the bike previously. I don't blame ya for going bigger since you had it apart, but we deserve the real details.
So is it a 124 or a 131 now. Please Advise
Jeez Carl - I may have to figure out how to mod some skis to my SERG to get me outta the great white north to spectate this damn event :vrolijk_11: :trailer: :whip: :drink:Hey GoodHowie, remember that Hub sells top of the line trailers. :apple: :drink: har. spyder

One thing about it you no it will get there with out blowing up.
Second thing about it is, you know you can't get your a$$ busted when she's blowed-up. But, like the monkey said when he cut his tail off, "It won't be long now," 'till I bust your a$$ again! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: ;) Later--HUBBARD
Not till after i get a flack jacket for all the new flying parts. :'(
I thought all you damn Hillbillys just went out on the front porch and yelled at each other when you wanted to argue over something. Isn't that why they call they mountainsides where y'all live "Hollers"

Maudie waiting on RINEHART Header-Pipes, to return from coating. Final dyno results forthcoming. 8) Later--HUBBARD
Ol' Maudie's Header Pipes should be back from Elliot's today. Hopefully will go down this week-end and bring the Ol' Girl home. :2vrolijk_21: Later--HUBBARD
Hey Carl, maybe I missed it along the way, I mean there's like 10000 posts on this thread but what are you runnin for muffs ?
B B
Hey 103
Carl's changed a bunch of things on his ride with this rebuild and the post you quote expresses an opinion on asthetics not performance. I was wondering if he'd decided to make a change. You could probably fund a few more posts from him and some from me and him where he speaks to his preferences but we all know that Carl likes to keep a few cards in his hand face down for as long as possible.

I changed my mind yet again for exhaust on ole maudie.... So in an attempt to dress her up a little I've decided to add these end caps.

It appears the owner of Elliot's, (Jett-Hott business), has taken ill, and his staff has some major issues with telling the truth. My Header-Pipes have supposed to have been ready tomorrow, for dam nigh 2 wks. now. Looks like Ol' Maudie will have to strut her old RINEHARTS, 'till I return from Daytona. Made my mind up to go get the Ol' Girl tomorrow, and that's that. Gotta' slick up her up so she can cut that air. 8) Later--HUBBARD
Hubbard sorry to hear about the delay in the new headpipes that really sucks, but at least you have choices still. Has Neil gotten that final dyno done yet?
No. Tilley advised not to exceed 3500 for 2 days, then ride normal. I'll drop it off on the way back for final tune, and new pipes. I'm gonna try to put a few miles on before we leave the Mountain State. Sure good to see the Ol' Girl in the garage this morning. ;) Later--HUBBARD
Normal normal or Hubbard normal there is a difference :huepfenlol2:
Guess Neil's flack jacket didnt come in in time either LOL
Seems a lot quieter, idling. ;) Later--HUBBARDReally? ::) Wonder why? har. spyder

5000 plus reads on a thread about one member's motorcycle.
Carl, I have to give you credit where credit is due, you are a master salesman.
If one believes Leo Dicaprio's speech in The Quick and The Dead, you've already won the race.

I guess Ol' Maudie has quite a "following", no pun intended.
Good to hear ole Maudie is back on the road and runnin strong. :2vrolijk_21:Sounds good Hub. I love it when a plan comes together w/o those unforeseen 'hitches', don't you? See ya on the East Coast of Fla. ;) spyder
Blink...Someone is on acid, and it's not me.
