1982 FXRS Information
« on: September 07, 2007, 10:40:23 AM »

I have the opportunity to buy a 1982 FXRS from a friend...not in perfect condition but runs well and needs a little work, Frame and Engine are good...would need to be repainted, speedo don't work and the turn signals don't blink.  New parts: chain, chrome rear sprocket, S&S carb with teardrop air filter cover, grips, Rear brake master cylinder, brake pads, battery, coil, spark plugs, plug wires.

Would become my project bike...I like the idea of owning a 80CiD Shovel!

Any considerations that I should give before pulling the trigger?

Don't know if you ever visit other internet "neighborhoods" or not but here's a thread about a guy up in Maine that's re-doing a shovel FXRT.  He's a bonafide FXR and shovel motor fan (I've corresponded with him--nice guy) so you might want to get his input.  Anyway, it's an interesting thread with many photos.  Hope this helps.

Great bike to have! I regret selling mine as it still had the commemorative front fender badge as Harley purchased itself from AMF back then. And there is nothing like the distinctive sound of a shovelhead...
