What shall we call the CVO version of HOG?
« on: May 12, 2005, 04:52:10 PM »

***NEWSFLASH***

Wallmart have been sucessful in secretive discussions to buy Harley Davidson Inc. Wallmart announced today that it has plans to double profits by making the company more customer focussed. An early move towards their new customer focus is demonstated as they announced;

"We are to start a new elite group (a kind of HOG on steroids) to represent a growing band of CVO bike owners. Members from the website, http://www.flhrsei.org , will be given the freedom to elect the name."

Vote away, Guys!

Yea, as Hubbard would say........Uhh, Errr......I'm not sure that's the approach that we want to take if we ever expect HD to get behind it.

We may want to start out by asking if there is interest in it and then asking for ideas for the names.

Looking at CVO history, in 2000 they produced the Screaming Eagle Road Glide and it was the first bike they designated as such (in 1999 they had FXR2 & 3) Since then they have used "Screaming Eagle" as part of the model name on the RG and RK. They didn't use it for the FX models until 2003. And to think I used to hate History in school...guess they were teaching us about the wrong things. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Just to flesh this out a bit how about some insight from someone far more conversant on the history of the CVO line than am I (whomever you might be).

At the beginning were the names Screamin' Eagle (as in Screamin Eagle Road Glide or Screamin Eagle Electra Glide, for examples) were as synonymous with the CVO prodoction bikes as it is today.  If an interest really does exist to think about a group or club name just want to make sure it doesn't cut someone out unnecessarily buy not remembering the early bikes.

From the several PMs I've gotten now asking for the York gift shop's phone number it seems like the club jacket might be that nylon jacket with "Vehicle Operations" already embroidered on it that a few of us have bought there.  We're gonna need a patch though dammit.  And condoms.  Embroidered condoms sewn to match the stitching on the jackets.  Then the real tough guys could get a little patch made up that would be an analogue to the "I rode mine" rally patches for their condoms.  They'd put it right under the stitching and it'd say "I wore mine."  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I'm all for the whole Screamin Chicken (Screamin Turkey, Screamin Dodo Bird, etc etc etc) theme.  But the club patch won't need to be event specific.  So it'll need some editing.....  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Some funny chit here.

Twolane, being a rider (vs. a trailerer) you know that if a tough guy is wearning a patch that says "I rode mine" they they're not gonna have condoms hangin on their jacket...........but they might have another patch that says "Real men don't wear rain coats in the shower..........or condoms"!

Then, of course, while you got the "tough" guys pegged, you forgot about the real soft guys.  There patch will say "I trailered mine".........and of course, that's the patch that'll be attached to the condoms. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

You've been happily married for a long time haven't you JC?  [smiley=7.gif]  Congrats on a good thing.

But it's a different world out there man.

I'm old enough to remember being in part of my teens when we still thought just about anything caused by bare naked fun could be cured with a trip to the doc and a shot your folks didn't know about.  GRID was what made up the highway system.  Then, OH MY GOD, we thought herpes was actually a big deal.  Herpes became little more than a nuisance that doctors often don't even bother to tell you about as soon as GRID became AIDS and everyone began to know about it.  Pretty much by that time unless you're Star Trekkin (Going Where No Man Has Gone Before) a condom is the order of the day if you have a mind to meet someone outside of your WELL known universe.  I feel bad for kids that have grown up during now two generations when it's just a commonplace accepted fact to know that screwing around can kill your ass.  Has to have taken some of the fun out of being a teenager.  And they don't even know the difference.

Now now boys and girls.  Nothing commonly gets deleted (well, I did delete one of my own threads just because I wanted to feel the rush of absolute power that went along with it) because the bounds are generally understood and accepted and because we're just a damn straight good bunch of folks. Mostly because I'm demented I'm sure; but I still really like that Screaming Chicken patch idea that's been displayed.  Obviously a pre-existing name like Screamin' Eagle would be out of bounds anyway.  So how about SCORG ?  The Screamin' Chicken Owners & Riders Group ?

Close enough to something known to be recognizable.  Distinct enough to stand on it's own.  Slightly asinine enough to fit this wonderful group of friends.  Bannered across the top arc of the patch could be "Screamin Chicken" with "Owners & Riders Group" across the bottom.

I need a nap.

Had another idea for a name this afternoon.  Was doing completey "other" stuff and this just popped in to my head.  Kind of a cross between a rider's club and some dumb ass fraternity.  Screaming Chicken Riders and Owners Tau Alpha Lambda (SCROTAL).

I obviously really need a little professional "assistance."

I dont think "CVO" or "HOG" will work in a patch/logo, especially without an agreement with the MoCo.  It seemed like it was the concensus earlier that a relationship with HD or HOG was not beneficial.

BLM777 You are so right.  Even I got caught up in the moment and I live this stuff - trademarks/copyrights/privacy acts etc.  Thanks for the voice of reason in the midst of this insanity.  So we need a name without any of the copyrighted names - no hog no cvo has to cover all bikes and all members.  Wow!  WFP ------ still throwing those darts in the office?  Gotta come up with something and looks like nidan can come up with some graphics for us.   [smiley=laugh.gif]

Another good looking image.  I'd bet, however, that the potential for any future hassle or entanglements is lessened if you don't have the word Harley in it.

he has to have a graphics background - that is amazing what he is coming up with - that last one is a badge I would sew onto a leather jacket and wear
it should have more YELLOW in it - cause YELLOW is faster [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Thanks guys, I'm actually a senior HP-UX performance specialist , but had an art minor in school. I've designed shirts and logo's in the past.   I'd love to see the MoCo sanction us , but until that day we'll just have to sneak under the radar.

Oh, that looks nice.  You do good work Nidan.

The name, however, begs the question of what the nickname or short name would be that comes from it.  Would we be "The Customers,"  "The Americans" or what  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  After all, you gotta have a catchy nickname.

Or maybe chapters could do that with their chapter name.  If it goes that way then my locality gets the "Screamin' Chicken" chapter  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Just bouncing around the sound of it in my otherwise empty head.  No offense intended so please don't take any.  But the "Custom American......" thing just doesn't seem to have a lot of "ring" to it.  It's also sounds like it might be addressing the chopper crowd?

To keep the eagle in it how about something like "American Eagle Riders."  It touches on the whole Screamin Eagle thing and the notion of American bikes.  The name could still use your cool patch.  As long as folks didn't us confused with the foundering little local airline they'd think we're pretty cool  [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

I was trying to think of a way around using Harley and CVO and still have a catchy name.

I hear ya on the generic chopper crowd thing .

Like that one.  Like it a lot.  Need to find out, however, if Harley has any ownership, corpyright, or other type of rights to the "CVO."  Custom Vehicle Operations is the name of the building where there bikes are built.  Don't know if it's been given any kind of trade significance or copyright above and beyond that though.

Well a search of the web provided some interesting results, it appears that there are more than a few CVO's out there , so it seems quite doubtful they can trademark the letter scheme, and without specific reference to motorcyles it appears HD would have a tough time to persue any legal action:

USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory (CVO)
Chigago Volkswagen Owners (CVO)
The College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO)
Circumventricular organs (CVO)
Constant Velocity of Ocala Inc.
CVO.ca - Canadian Virtual Office
Canadian Virtual Observatory
Central VA Orthopaedics
Covert Vampiric Operations
CVO Centrum Voor Volwassenen Onderwijs

and the list goes on ....

So COG may just work , now to persue the graphics ... hmmm

Been watching this thread for a while and I like the COG idea.  However, I'm a patriot and all, but how about a motorcycle, or a wheel, or a V-Twin engine in the logo?

"Covert Vampiric Operations"????  Really?  Just what the heck is that? [smiley=nervous.gif]

And I guess "Strutting Storks from York" is out then, huh? [smiley=laugh.gif]
