Last year, riding home from Nova Scotia and PEI (You know those areas in the cooler North Atlantic Area?), we went to Bar harbor and stopped for the night. Then on Monday, Memorial Day, We rode south on Route 1 most of the way home...well, being Memorial Day, there were Memorial Day parades...and some take place on a town's main street that also happens to be route 1.
So there we were stopped in traffic and in a Hoist moment, my patience wore thin so I scoot over to the Breakdown Lane and intend to take the next available right turn...well about 4 cars before getting to the intersection, i see the cop ahed directing traffic so I hit the brakes...but as the bike was coming to a stop, the front end suddenly started to turn to the left but the bike was still going strait...remember, this was maine, and it was still only May and there was still sand on the sides of the road.
As we stopped, my left foot was pinned under the floorboard and a bad angle (yet good since the sole was verticle and protected my foot from being totally crushed. Anne could not extricate her left leg so there we were, both still on the bike with it leaning way over, unable to get off and unable to gain the necessary leverage to lift the bike back to verticle.
Someone got out of their car (that we just passed on the right) and gave us a hand to right the bike.
Rode the rest of the way home a little more cautious and over time, my foot was hurting more and more...just not as much as my pride. My ankle swelled up the next morning from the hyper extension and was painful to walk on for the next three days...
