For the fire Bros here
« on: January 22, 2006, 01:40:30 PM »

Hey bros, did you catch the chicago fire ladder truck on the news

One lucky dude

Scroll through the videos, there are at least two.
http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/local_story_021172444.html

And on my truck company we only have 3 guys, and that is when no one is out sick or on vacation.

Good thing they had someone on the turntable to raise the ladder.

Yeah, caught that on FOX News over lunch Friday. Scary stuff! Firemen don't get near enough credit, appreciation or I suspect pay either for the dangerous things they do.
Thanks to you and your fire brothers PORTHOLE for all you do. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Porthole,
Saw this the other day as it was sent out to our entire department. As you stated he was one lucky man that someone was on the turntable and knew what to do. One thing about our department is we have minimum staffing (3) on each piece (even though I think every seat should have a body), when someone is out sick or on vacation they hire back to keep that minimum. Only bad thing about this is there is mandatory overtime, but on the bright side (pun intended), I use this money to fulfill my OCD. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

See you don't really have it that bad. Whatever you do, don't let administration hear what some other departments are doing.

All of the Honorable Firemen and Police Officers here, and throughout this Great Country, have my utmost respect, and I commend them for their efforts.  They must be one Helluva' group of People, to risk their lives daily, for the benefit of Others.  You're underpaid, too.  If I ever get the oppportunity, I will change that, in WV!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Thank all of you!   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]Later--HUBBARD

Hubbard,
Thanks to you and all the others that have recognized our efforts. But you know (for me, and probably all the rest of us that run in burning buildings as others are running out) it is just an adrenaline rush (and we don't do if for the money). I would equate it to the feeling when you go "WFO" on "Old Maudie". For me it's a love/hate thing, as I've matured in my career I still love to see fire and "tame the dragon", but have realized that even though (if we are lucky) nobody gets hurt/killed someone is still losing something. It may be a picture of their great great grandparents that can't be replaced which may seem insignificant to some, but it is still a lost to those that have suffered it.

Anyways, again I would just like to thank those that have recognized our efforts, because of your recognition it makes us want to go out everyday and do our jobs. Fired00d
