Does anyone else get a pain in their right shoulder, close to the neck after a long ride (250 or more).  I think it is from holding the throttle in one position for a long time.. .I don't really know.

If you have this... what did you do to resolve it?

Try using your cruise control and reposition yourself every once in a while, works for me.

That actually can be carpal tunnel syndrome.  Doing as suggested is your first step.

I suffer from the same issue, but using the cruise has helped me.  :)

I find on long rides (several hundred miles) if I pay close attention to my posture, I have fewer aches and pains afterwards... :2vrolijk_21:

Have you adjusted the bars to bring them to their best spot for you?  Or considered changing bars to gain a better feel and riding position.

Used to be first thing we ever did when getting a different bike was adjust the bars.  Now so many just take the machines as they come out of the dealerships and don't consider alterations.  They're not a one size fits all machine.

True...

With the stock bars, my right wrist would tend to go numb on long runs...  With the Wild One chubby bars...much more comfortable and wrist is just fine...!  A more natural position for me....

Handlebars and saddles.  They really have to be at least considered whenever anyone change bikes.  Those two things more than anything else dial a bike in to the rider.  Makes a difference doing things in the right order too.

If a saddle change is likely it should go first.  It'll move the rider.  Rider can't know where his bars or his windshield will need to be until he knows where is ass is going to be and how high or low the saddle will set him.

I haven't adjusted the bars...  thought about it, just not sure where to start.  I will make an adjustement to where I think is most comfortable and see how it goes.

Thanks for the replys.

I used to get the same pain and actually sold my RK when it got unbearable.  Ended up curing most of the issue by adjusting bars higher.  You may need to go haigher and back which will require a different bar.

Good luck

Had all kinds of discomfort, aches, pains and such with my springer. Changed out bars to 10" mini apes.
The bars we chose are actually more similar to the old buckhorns with a wider tip to tip. Not only did the pains in my neck, shoulders and upper back go away, also don't wear lower back brace any longer. 65,000 miles with brace on two different bikes. 8,000 miles without.
Change of bars allowed me to keep stock seat and made it much more comfortable due to butt position and posture.
I have an 08 Softail Springer and now can ride 400 to 500 miles with little or no discomfort!

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV.  ::)

I have bone spurs and degenerative discs in my neck.  Put me down for several weeks last year.  Meds didn't do squat, a steroid site injection didn't do squat, the only thing that helped was physical therapy.  I have found while riding when it starts to hurt a little, I stretch my neck and it seems to help a lot.  To do this, try to touch your adams apple with your chin and hold it for a long 10 count.  Do this about 3 times and you might feel some relief.  It REALLY works for me!

I hope you find relief...been there, done that...and a pain in the neck is a real pain in the arse!
