Lets see...We've done numbers 1,2,3,5(sorrta, rode rte 1 along the northern coast of Cali) ,7,9,11 and 12. Do I get a prize???

I've been to Colorado but not the area they mention and Texas and Missouri are on my list...

Man, Crater Lake is a beautiful site! I'd be happy if I could do at least ONE of those rides, but no time and limited funds puts the brakes on that ... maybe someday. I'm a little jealous of so many of you that can do all those trips, but at least I can enjoy some of the great sites through all of your eyes so thanks for that.  :2vrolijk_21:

Lets see, I have done the following rides:
1. Ride the Lasso out of Sturgis toward Devils Tower.
2. Thread the eye on the Needles Highway in Custer State Park.
3. Then head south to enjoy the rolling prairie and buffalo on the Wildlife Loop Road.

6. Take a ride on the Old Loveland Pass in the White River National Forest, Colorado.

11. Soak in the shades of autumn over Deals Gap in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.
12. Lastly: once in your life, you must ride Hwy 441 through Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

So I have rode 6 of the 12 and those I have all rode more than once.

They are missing three truly spectacular rides.

Bearthooth pass from Redlodge MT to Yellowstone
Million dollar Hwy in CO from Durango to Ouray
Blue Ridge Parkway

There is also Chief Joseph's Hwy from Cody to Yellowstone

Only 7 out of 12 for me  :-[  But, as Dave said,  the Beartooth, Chief Joseph, and Blue Ridge Parkway should definitely be on the list..also, pretty much any road near Maggie Valley.. :pepper:

Part of the reason I posted this was to share but also to have any missing from the list mentioned. I'd like to do the list plus the extras you mentioned.

I have done a few of these, but not always on a bike. The Great Smoky Mtns are incredible. I am surprised that Beartooth Pass in Wyoming/Montana is not mentioned. Or million dollar hwy in Colorado?

Here in the Northeast there are some great rides through the White Mtns of NH such as the Kancamagus Hwy and Franconia Notch areas and Mount Washington. Also the Adirondack Mtns are gorgeous and surround the area of Lake George. Also in NY is Lake Placid with Whiteface Mtn and the Finger Lakes which is wine country

I have ridden the Pacific Coast Hwy. But also just as spectacular is the Sierra Nevada Mtn range and the Giant Sequoias of Redwood National Forest.

Any one ever ride through Death Valley?

We generally go to DV once or twice a year. Very interesting place visually but the majority of the roads themselves at or below sea level are nothing to write home about. However the roads into and out of DV are very fun. Still it's a must visit location. The best roads there are off road dual sport.  This is is Melanie and me on our dual sports in Titus Canyon DV

Dual sports i can see. But I don't think the paved roads would be too exciting.

For you riders in North Central Arizona you should ride the Coronado Trail the old Highway (666) now 191 starting in the north  at Sringerville at the junction of 191 and 60. This Trail has 460 curves over apprx. 120 miles on one of the least traveled federal highways. The twisties begin at Hannigan Meadows to Clifton. You go from palm deserts to elevations up to 6000 ft. Great ride one of the least known and heard of rides.

Actually coming over 190 into/out of DV is a great twisty road.

Looking at the list, it shows running from Cherokee to Gatlinburg. What kind of time frame are we talking about for a nice lazy ride with stops along the way to enjoy the sights?

Mike, 441 is an awesome road to ride, timing is everything there for traffic. The earlier the better. Coming from MV right before you get to Gatlinburg take a left on Little river road, follow it to foothills pkyw and hang a left. This will run right into 129 at Chilhowee Lake. To the left is the dragon, The way pictured shows back to MV via Cherohala Skyway. Plenty of scenic pull offs everywhere. Not a bad road there.

Enjoy

'preciate that map TN. We're not doing the Builtmore tour on Thurs and have been wondering where to go. I know Debi wants to ride the Dragon again so we may cut out the Cherhola. Depends on how we ride it, we may try to take it all in one day.

I concur!  I've done nine of the twelve listed and while I enjoyed them all, I'd have to say that several would not be on my top 12 list.

Haven't done #s 4, 9 & 10, have done all the others mentioned in this Thread except the Chief Joseph and the Million Dollar Hwy mudslides when we were out there last year :-(

Went through Death Valley in the F-250 :-( in '05 in a hundred year bloom, it was way different than I expected... All of DV covered in multi-colored wild flowers!!!

The Going to the Sun Rd. in Glacier at least deserves an honorable mention...

Also really enjoy riding Yellowstone

While not challenging or technical, we really enjoy riding A1A in the Keys and from Flagler Beach to St. Augustine...

Hwy 36 out of Redding, Hwy 49 in the Sierras, Hwy 80 (Kit Carson Pass) in the Sierras, Carmel Valley Rd...
We have more than twelve roads that could qualify in California.
The difficulty lies in picking favorites, there are so many great roads everywhere.

Especially Ebbits Pass.  I think it's state route 4? That's one curvy road, an no traffic. Nice little lake and general store at the end/beginning.

It would need to be sub catorigized. Some are great do to the majestic scenery, some are great due to the terrain, pavement conditions and layout. Some are a combination.
And some like upper 12 in Utah are both, but so full of damn cows that it makes it difficult to sightsee or or go at a decient speed  :nervous:
